Zagadnienia związane z wykorzystywaniem odnawialnych źródeł energii bardzo zyskują na znaczeniu w ostatnim dziesięcioleciu. Wśród krajów Unii Europejskiej pozycję lidera przemian w zakresie przebudowy systemu energetycznego, w tym zarazem innowacyjnych rozwiązań w zakresie nowego modelu wykorzystywania odnawialnych źródeł energii, zajmują Niemcy. W artykule zaprezentowano koncepcję wsi bioenergetycznej, która stanowi element transformacji energetycznej Niemiec. Model wdrażania, a przede wszystkim doświadczenia wynikające z jej wprowadzania w sferze społecznej, jak również rozwiązania techniczne powinny być stosowane przez inne kraje. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie niemieckiej koncepcji tzw. Bioenergiedorf (zwanej także biowioską lub wsią bioenergetyczną) wraz z jej oceną, w szczególności pod względem ekonomicznej efektywności. W świetle problemów, pojawiających się przy tworzeniu niemieckich biowiosek, koncepcja samowystarczalnej wioski (pierwotnie oparta wyłącznie na wykorzystaniu biomasy) ewoluuje w kierunku szerokiego wykorzystania innych nośników energii odnawialnej.

Issues related to the use of renewable energy resources have gained significant prominence in the last decade. Among the European Union countries, Germany is the leader of energy system transformation; also in terms of innovative solutions for the new model of using renewable energy sources. The paper presents the concept of a bioenergy village – part of the German strategy of energy transformation. Other countries should follow the model of the concept's implementation and, above all, use the experience resulting from its implementation in the social and technical structures. However, the problems that have arisen in the process of the creation of German bioenergy villages have resulted in the changes of the concept originally based on the sole use of biomass, causing it to evolve towards an extensive use of other renewable energy technologies.
