The article presents the author’s reflexions connected with the issue of tolerance, put in a context of contemporary social reality. Recent modifications of that reality, increasing process of globalization and, following it, growing importance of multicultural patterns of social life, provoke a widening debates on tolerance, its boundaries and paradoxes, sometimes caused by this idea. The author develops her argumentation towards the statement that the idea of tolerance is very sensitive for some dangerous consequences which might emerge from it, like, e.g., problems with cultural identity or some kind of intolerance, paradoxically based on the idea of tolerance. Because of this, the issue of tolerance urges a reasonable and well-balanced approach.
