The increased interest in business models can be observed in the second half of the 90s of the last century. The research objective of this study is to assess the impact of grants received by companies on the formation of the business model. The study used the “Canvas” model proposed by A. Osterwalder and Y. Pigneur and covered micro, small and medium-sized enterprises based in rural areas, which received support in the form of investment grants under the Regional Operational Programmes between 2007–2013 for northern Poland. The results indicate that investment grants clearly influenced the modification of the business model elements, which are located on the left side of the “Canvas” template.

Multisided, digital platforms attract considerable attention in business and academic circles. Seven out of the ten most valuable companies in the world derive much of their value from multisided platforms. The problem of defining and measuring value remains a major challenge in management literature. In this paper I analyze the relationship between the sales (revenue) and market capitalization of companies with digital platform business models. Data was used from a sample of 19 companies that used platform business models in 2017. To assess the correlation, Pearson correlation coefficient was applied. The results indicate that there was a significant positive relationship between revenue and market capitalization in 2017. This suggests that revenue may be used as the main variable in the valuation of companies using platform business models. The results point to future research problems that may be addressed using casebased methodology.

Presented results of a study include group of 718 subjects which were randomly selected samples from each stratum – group of a population (the whole community of social economy entities in Poland has nearly 100 thousand entities). The analysis used statistical tests aimed at determining the strength of the association between the two variables. The analysis is trying to find an explanation for the diversity of economic and social economic of business models for PS in differences of factors determining the form, structure and business (or “payable statutory”) activities. The issue of the study provided the opportunity to establish models that are used in practice. The outcomes allow to show both: the most common and the most effective business models. The purpose of this work is to characterise the cooperative bank sector’s strengths, weaknesses, chances and threats identified by its representatives in Poland, as well as to determine desirable changes in the organisation and functioning of cooperative banks. In analytical terms, the assessments and conclusions were based on presentations and panel discussions of participants of the Forum of Cooperative Bank Leaders, which was held in Warsaw on 17–18 September 2019. It was concluded on the basis of the analysis that although cooperative banks are aware of their weaknesses and strengths as well as they see chances and threats for their operations, they clearly lack consensus on the shape and joint actions in the scope of the development of a new business model. The greatest expectations of these banks are connected with the development of electronic economy and digitisation, which requires considerable financial outlays and organisational effort. The key problem is the insufficient level of integration and cooperation within associations functioning and among them, as well as lack of willingness – even reluctance – of many banks to change the existing model. Greater integration of all entities in the cooperative bank sector is the necessary condition for the improvement of banks’ operations and their further development.

Background and Purpose: Business model innovation (BMI) has become increasingly important, especially in the fast changing business environment. While large enterprises approach these changes systematically, small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) are left to their own resourcefulness. For the purpose of developing dedicated methods and tools to support different SMEs in addressing these challenges, we have conducted a multiple case study to gain insights into factors that drive SMEs to innovate their BM, how they approach BMI and what changes they made to their BM. Design/Methodology/Approach: First the framework of analysis was developed based on BMI research frameworks identified in literature review. Then the multiple case studies were conducted following the case study protocol developed by Envision project. Results: Based on the proposed framework the results of four Slovene SME cases revealed differences between enterprises regarding the drivers behind BMI and changes in usage of the different BMI elements. Conclusion: Overall, the results suggest all four SMEs, coming from different sectors, are facing BMI challenges without systematically addressing it and without using any dedicated BM ontologies or tools.

Business models from the 90s are used to transform the idea of entrepreneur in the value creation process. This paper presents a proposal to modify the concept of the business model according to A. Osterwalder and Y. Pigneur. It pointed out the need to pay attention to intangible assets while defining elements of the business model. Attention was also drawn to the appropriate integration of intangible and tangible assets, because the interaction of all elements of the business model can achieve synergistic effects that manifest themselves in gaining competitive advantage.

On the basis of the study of literature the article discusses the types of roles played by foreign units of international companies and synthetically presents the problem of business models focusing on the perspective of the internationalization of business operations. That provided the basis for the identification of the main areas requiring scientific research into the business models of foreign units of international companies. The gaps are presented in the form of the following research questions: what are the elements of the business models of foreign units of international companies; do the same elements constitute the business models of international companies and their foreign units; what types of business models of foreign entities exist; what internal factors determine the choice of business models of foreign units of international companies; is there a correlation between the country of origin of an international company and types of business models of its foreign units? Defining these questions helped designate the trajectory of research which is necessary to enrich the scientific research into the problems of business models of foreign units of international companies.

It seems that in the 21st century business needs to adapt faster than ever to the expectations of the external environment. This makes it necessary to look for new solutions that give the opportunity to reconcile the needs and expectations of consumers who are increasingly aware and enterprise which are trying to meet new requirements. As a result there is a change in the perception of existing business models and a move beyond the linear economic model. The new optics of looking at business is both legitimate and necessary. One of such concepts is Circular Economy (CE) which incorporates the existing management concepts into the strategic idea of natural resources protection. What is more, the assumptions of the CE are coherent with the postulates of sustainable development and, in particular, environmental aspects, which constitutes its additional value. The aim of the article is to present the idea of CE in terms of business models.

Research conclusions: The scope of disclosures about the business model in financial reports, their structure and presentation are significantly diversified. It makes it difficult to identify behavioral factors in this area. There is also lack of disclosures on the impact of business model on accepted accounting solutions in entities.

Purpose: The fundamental objective of this article is to discern whether business model maturity is perceived through the prism of the ability to deal with unexpected challenges, overcome unprecedented threats, and use emerging business opportunities (agility) or – perhaps – more as a feature of the organization, which makes a business model less vulnerable to unpredictable external changes or sets it in a better position to make it respond effectively to these changes (flexibility). Methodology: The reconnaissance of opinions requires the creation of a catalog of desiderata that significantly identify agility and flexibility. Theoretical and design layers will use a method of reconstruction and interpretation of the subject literature supported by a discussion within a group of deliberately selected experts. This will be reflected in a set of parameters, on the one hand, characteristic of the categories of agility and flexibility and, on the other hand, reflecting business model maturity. Findings: The conducted research allows us to state that mature business models – as implemented by the surveyed companies – are perceived rather through the prism of the strategic ability of enterprises to quickly adapt to unforeseen and sudden changes on the market (agility category). Originality: The article includes not only academic postulates of agility or flexibility but also practical tips that enable constructing guidelines for decision-makers and managers of the agricultural machinery sector. The study carries a charge of a theoretical and empirical study. It takes into account knowledge and expert experience.
