The following text presents Jadwiga Nowak’s publications in “The Pedagogical Quarterly” in the 1970s and 1980s. The content of individual articles is presented, with special emphasis on Jadwiga Nowak’s innovative way of thinking about adult education, the role the workplace has in adapting recent graduates to work, as well as the state of andragogical theories and empirical research. The article highlights Jadwiga Nowak’s innovation and critical thinking, as well as the originality of the solutions she proposed.

Quality research, faced with the increasing presence of advanced technologies are often perceived as ‘ordinary and old-fashioned’, and the work by quality researcher – a moderator and data analyst, looks easy and attractive only superficially. Therefore, many researchers experience internal conflicts or even symptoms of job burnout. Polish industry of market and social quality research is at the crossroads. New technologies, economic crisis and consumers aware of market rules, force the reduction of costs and power the innovativeness pursuit. No one knows what is round the corner, the only thing that is certain is the change. In the article, based on research carried out for the purpose of my PhD thesis as well as many years of professional experience as a coordinator of a team of quality researchers in a research institution, I shall define the characteristics of a ‘quality researcher’. I shall elaborate on the following: how he views himself and his work, what decided on his choice of career, how it has changed throughout his professional career and what further choices it entails.

Badania jakościowe, przy coraz większej obecności zaawansowanych technologii są niejednokrotnie odbierane jako „zwykłe i przestarzałe”, a praca badacza jakościowego – moderatora i analityka danych, tylko fasadowo wygląda na łatwą i przyjemną. Wielu badaczy odczuwa zatem wewnętrzne konflikty, a nawet symptomy wypalenia zawodowego. Polska branża jakościowych badań rynkowych i społecznych stoi na rozdrożu. Nowe technologie, kryzys gospodarczy i świadomi gry rynkowej konsumenci, wymuszają redukcje kosztów, a napędzają wyścig innowacyjności. Nie wiadomo co czai się za zakrętem, a jedynym, co pewne, jest zmiana. W artykule, opartym na badaniach prowadzonych do pracy doktorskiej oraz wieloletnim doświadczeniu zawodowym jako kierownik zespołu badaczy jakościowych w firmie badawczej, nakreślę kim właściwie jest „jakościowiec”. Jak postrzega siebie i swoją pracę, co decydowało o jego wyborze takiego zawodu, jak zmienia się to na przestrzeni lat kariery i jakimi kolejnymi wyborami skutkuje.
