The problem informal carers often face is to reconcile their occupations and time of caring. In the UE countries there is carer’s leave that allow people to take time off work among other forms of the institutional support offered to people who combine their work with looking after their dependents. However, these leaves are granted on different conditions. There is also a discussion in the euro zone whether to establish the leave for informal carers as one of the minimal standards provided under the European pillar of social rights. The goal of this work is to demonstrate the systems of assistance provided to occupationally active caregivers with special emphasis on Belgium, where paid carer’s leaves are the longest in the UE28. The study is based on statistical data of Eurostat, and results of researches published in reports of the European Commission.

Dylemat, przed którym stają nieformalni opiekunowie osób niesamodzielnych, dotyczy wyborów między pracą zawodową i czasem przeznaczonym na opiekę. Wśród różnych form instytucjonalnego wsparcia oferowanego w krajach UE osobom łączącym pracę zawodową ze sprawowaniem opieki nad osobami niesamodzielnymi istotną rolę pełnią urlopy opiekuńcze, udzielane na różnych zasadach. W krajach strefy euro toczy się dyskusja, aby jednym ze standardów minimalnych zapewnionych w ramach europejskiego filaru praw socjalnych był urlop dla opiekunów nieformalnych. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie systemów wsparcia aktywnych zawodowo opiekunów ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem Belgii, gdzie płatne ze środków publicznych urlopy opiekuńcze należą do najdłuższych w UE28. W opracowaniu wykorzystano dane statystyczne Eurostatu oraz przedstawiono wyniki badań zawartych w raportach Komisji Europejskiej.
