Celem artykułu jest ukazanie europejskich i afrykańskich korzeni karnawałowej muzyki urugwajskiej. Przedstawiamy dwa gatunki muzyczne, pochodzące z obu kontynentów, charakterystyczne dla obchodów karnawału w Urugwaju: murgę i candombe. Murgas, muzyczno-teatralne spektakle, które wywodzą się z Hiszpanii, wykształciły w Urugwaju własny styl, stając się nieodłącznym elementem urugwajskiej sceny karnawałowej. Rytmy candombe, które wyrosły z afrykańskiej spuścizny kulturowej, są uważane za narodową muzykę urugwajską. Kształtowanie się obu gatunków na przestrzeni XIX wieku wiąże się z przemianami społecznymi jakie zachodziły w Urugwaju, a spotkanie rytmów, melodii i tańców afrykańskich i europejskich stało się elementem urugwajskiej tożsamości narodowej.

The purpose of the article is to present the European and African roots of carnival music of Uruguay. We have focused on two musical genres that came from these two continents, which are very characteristic for celebrations of the Uruguayan carnival: murga and candombe. Murgas are performances of musical theater originating from Spain that evolved in Uruguay gaining their own style. The candombe rhythms, derived from African cultural heritage, are considered Uruguayan national music.
