The purpose of this study is primarily to present deliberations of the authors of the Mishnah regarding flagellation. A lot of material on this subject can be found in the Mishnah tractate Makkot (”Lashes”, “Stripes”) which discusses legal regulations, points out offences that are subject to this penalty and gives the methods of executing a sentence. The tractate Makkot combines this with the conspiring witnesses against whom this penalty was applied under certain conditions. That is why the study also includes this issue. The content of the tractate Makkot is the basis for this study where the passages that are directly or indirectly related to the topic were selected on purpose. Therefore, the order was reversed to focus right away on discussing the punishment of lashes, which was clarified in the third chapter of the tractate and in the first three paragraphs of the first chapter, which also deals with conspiring witnesses.

Celem tego opracowania jest przede wszystkim przedstawienie rozważań twórców Miszny dotyczących biczowania. Wiele materiału na ten temat dostarcza traktat Miszny Makot (‘Uderzenia’, ‘Razy’), który omawia przepisy prawne, wskazuje rodzaje przewinień zagrożonych tą karą oraz podaje sposoby jej wykonania. Traktat Makot łączy to z krzywoprzysięzcami, wobec których w określonych przypadkach stosowano tę karę. Dlatego artykuł obejmuje także to zagadnienie. Treść traktatu Makot stanowi podstawę tego opracowania, w którym celowo wybrano te fragmenty, które wiążą się bezpośrednio lub pośrednio z podjętym tematem. Dlatego odwrócono kolejność, żeby od razu skupić się na omówieniu kary chłosty, co zostało wyjaśnione w trzecim rozdziale traktatu i w pierwszych trzech lekcjach pierwszego rozdziału, który także zajmuje się krzywoprzysięzcami.
