W latach 1969–1970 zorganizowano przy wydatnej pomocy Mazowieckich Zakładów Rafineryjnych i Petrochemicznych Oddział Chemiczny Filii Politechniki Warszawskiej w Płocku. Kształcenie studentów rozpoczęto w roku akademickim 1970/71. Wszechstronny rozwój działalności dydaktycznej i badawczej pozwolił na przekształcenie Oddziału w roku 1976 w Instytut Chemii.

The organization of Chemical Department in Plock Branch of Warsaw Technical University has presented. The chemical engineering studies started in 1970/71 academic year. The development of didactic and research activity enabled transform of the Department on the Institute level in 1976 year.
