Artykuł ukazuje zmiany w sposobach reprezentacji miasta w kinie hiszpańskim, koncentrując się na napięciu pomiędzy tym, co ikoniczne dla danego miejsca, a przestrzeniami dalekimi od turystycznych klisz. Analiza przedstawia w ujęciu diachronicznym początki stereotypizacji przestrzeni w okresie niemym, jej wykorzystanie ideologiczne podczas dyktatur generała Prima de Rivery i generała Franco oraz poszukiwanie formuł kontestacji tego modelu w czasach późnego frankizmu i transformacji ustrojowej. W tych kontekstach są rozpatrywane współczesne reinterpretacje dawnych konwencji, nowe architektoniczne symbole miast i związane z nimi wzorce reprezentacji, a także fenomen nie-miejsc, będący wyrazem buntu wobec egzotyzacji, ale też wynikający z chęci odnalezienia scenerii adekwatnej do poruszanych problemów społecznych. Prezentowane ujęcie wyróżnia na tle dotychczasowych badań skoncentrowanie na kwestii reprezentatywności przestrzeni oraz dążenie do historyczno-filmowej syntezy zagadnienia.

The article charts the changes in the depiction of the city in Spanish cinema, focusing on the tension between what is iconic of a given place and the exploration of spaces far removed from tourist clichés. An analysis of contemporary films is set against a historical background. It includes the beginnings of the stereotyping of urban areas in the silent cinema era, the ideological use of landscape during the dictatorships of General Primo de Rivera and General Franco, and the pursuit of realism as a counter to the dominant model of representation. Contemporary reinterpretations of old pictorial conventions, new urban icons and their associated patterns of representation, as well as the phenomenon of non-places, which is an expression of rebellion against exoticization but also stems from a desire to find a setting appropriate to the social issues raised, are all considered in these contexts. The presented approach stands out from previous research by focusing on the representative character of space and by aiming for a historical synthesis.

The article discusses the role of the city in Tales from the Kingdom of Lailonia by the philosopher Leszek Kołakowski, and in the animated film series Fourteen Tales from the Kingdom of Lailonia by Leszek Kołakowski, which is an adaptation of the book. The article is written from the point of view of the originator of the adaptation and the screenwriter of all the films in the series. The author examines the historical and ideological context of L. Kołakowski’s writing the Tales … and analyzes the role of the city understood as the setting of the plot (topos) and the venue for an exchange of ideas (agora) and for the community (polis); he does so on three levels: that of the literary original, the screenplay adaptation, and the film. He also examines the role of the city in those senses for the drama of the individual films, the philosophical and esthetic premises of the role, and – in these contexts – the relations between the selected films and their screenplays.
