The main purpose of this article is to introduce the readers to the connections between Szczecin and France and to observe how the memory of French presence influences over the centuries in economic, institutional and cultural activities the formation of collective memory and identity of habitants, and their interest in French culture today. The article presents a synthetic outline of history of Szczecin and its connections to France, as well as presenting monuments of material, literary and artistic culture, which bear witness to the lasting connections of our region with France. This article is also a proposal for potential readers to get acquainted with French culture existing in the area, which traditionally, due to its geographical location, is historically connected with the German-speaking cultural circle.

Podstawowym celem artykułu jest przybliżenie czytelnikom związków miasta Szczecina z Francją, a także zaobserwowanie, w jaki sposób pamięć o obecności francuskiej w zakresie działalności gospodarczej, instytucjonalnej i kulturowej na przestrzeni wieków wpływa na formowanie się pamięci zbiorowej i tożsamości mieszkańców oraz na ich zainteresowanie kulturą francuską współcześnie. W artykule zaprezentowano syntetyczny zarys historii miasta Szczecina i jego związków z Francją, a także zaprezentowano zabytki kultury materialnej, piśmienniczej i artystycznej, które świadczą o trwałych związkach regionu z Francją. Niniejszy artykuł stanowi także propozycję dla potencjalnych czytelników do zapoznania się z kulturą francuską istniejącą na terenach, które tradycyjnie, z racji położenia geograficznego, związane są z historycznie niemieckojęzycznym kręgiem kulturowym.
