The Land of Aeternal Hapiness is Wojciech Sitek's review article dedicated to the first monograph in the Polish language, dedicated to films on coming of age. Karolina Kostyra, the author of the book Wiosenna bujność traw. Obrazy przyrody w filmach o dorastaniu, observes that within the coming of age genre nature affects young people in a particularly significant way. During puberty, it is always so fertile and expansive that it abducts the adolescent into its depths and transforms them forever, preparing them to face adult life. At times, the publication, which nominally represents the discipline of film studies, transmogrifies into a general reflection upon the world and the place of the human in its all-encompassing order. The Author attempts to penetrate the essence by resorting to a variety of sources: she seeks adequate tropes in the Jungian mythographic criticism, she alludes to the motifs of magical and religious symbols as described by Mircea Eliade, and follows Bruno Bettelheim in reflecting upon the externalizing function of a folk tale. Her personal, emotionally vested reflection and the melancholy tone of the book closely correspond with the overarching themes of the coming=of-age films. The yearning thus has its source in the experiences of the proatonists as well as in the personal quest of the Author, who remains vividily engaged in her account of the tales of the borderlands between childhood and adulthood.

W Krainie wiecznego szczęścia Wojciech Sitek recenzuje pierwszą polskojęzyczną monografię poświęconą filmom o dorastaniu. Karolina Kostyra, autorka książki Wiosenna bujność traw. Obrazy przyrody w filmach o dorastaniu, zwraca uwagę, że w ramach gatunku coming of age natura w sposób szczególny oddziałuje na młodych ludzi. W czasie dojrzewania jest tak płodna i ekspansywna, że porywa w swoje głębie i na zawsze odmienia adolescenta, przygotowując go do podjęcia dorosłego życia. Filmoznawcza publikacja przybiera momentami kształt ogólnohumanistycznej refleksji nad światem i miejscem człowieka w rozległym porządku. Istotę związku między człowiekiem i przyrodą autorka próbuje zgłębić sięgając do różnych źródeł – poszukuje tropów w Jungowskiej krytyce mitograficznej, przywołuje rozpoznane przez Mirceę Eliadego motywy symboliki magiczno-religijnej, zaś za Bruno Bettelheimem rozpatruje eksternalizującą funkcję baśni. Osobista i emocjonalnie zaangażowana refleksja oraz melancholijny ton książki ściśle korespondują z tematyką podejmowaną w filmach o dorastaniu. Tęsknota płynie więc tutaj zarówno z przeżyć bohaterów, jak i z poszukiwań autorki, żywo zaangażowanej w relacjonowanie opowieści o pograniczu dzieciństwa i dorosłości.

In an attempt to find a possible criterion according to which to select the most representative titles and authors in the history of Italian children’s literature, one finds that a very peculiar theme characterises the books that can be considered most remarkable: death. Death, though, in Italian as well as in all the other children’s classics around the world, is not dealt with in a literal way, but in a metaphorical, symbolic, indirect one. Therefore, it is necessary to borrow interpretative approaches from other scientific fields (anthropology and philosophy, for example) in order to understand death’s deepest meaning and to discover that what it stands for, in Italian (and not only Italian) children’s literature, is an “otherness”, a “beyond”, an unknown and non-anthropocentric dimension that children must go through in order to grow up.

Ragionando su un possibile criterio in base al quale selezionare i testi e gli autori più rappresentativi della storia della letteratura per l’infanzia in Italia, ci si accorge che un tema in particolare caratterizza o è al centro di quelli che sono, di fatto, i suoi titoli più memorabili: la morte. Essa, però, come del resto accade in tutta la grande letteratura per l’infanzia, è trattata in modo non letterale bensì metaforico, simbolico, indiretto, uno che richiede che la si interpreti avvalendosi di strumenti ermeneutici presi a prestito anche da altre discipline, come per esempio l’antropologia o la filosofia. La morte si rivela, così, per ciò che realmente è e vuole significare nei migliori libri per bambini (non solo italiani): una dimensione ‘altra’ rispetto a quella quotidiana, normale, antropocentrata, un Altrove da cui, per crescere, occorre necessariamente passare.

The article aims to analyse issues related to the perception of the age of majority in Polish towns in the fifteenth and first decades of the sixteenth century. Attaining the age of majority, i.e. the age of discretion (Latin: anni discretionis) was regulated by law, and the term appears regularly in the registers of municipal courts and higher courts of German law. Therefore, the analysis of the source material makes it possible to reconstruct the process of coming of age together with the rights and obligations related to it and allows us to observe differences and similarities in treating adolescent girls and boys.

Celem artykułu jest analiza zagadnień związanych z postrzeganiem granicy pełnoletności w miastach polskich w XV i pierwszych dekadach XVI w. Osiągnięcie pełnoletności, czyli lat sprawnych (anni discretionis) było regulowane prawem, a termin ten występuje regularnie w rejestrach sądów miejskich i sądów wyższych prawa niemieckiego. Analiza materiału źródłowego umożliwia zatem odpowiedź na pytanie, jak wyglądał w praktyce proces wchodzenia w pełnoletność, jakie wiązały się z tym prawa i obowiązki oraz pozwala zaobserwować różnice i podobieństwa w sposobie traktowania dorastających dziewcząt i chłopców.
