In the situation of crisis not only in the economic, but also social, political and cultural dimension assuming of civilization trends more expressive form, are becoming more available to the description and analysis. It is necessary to emphasize that only these chosen, concerning peculiarly societies will be described and of the knowledge: liberalization, secularization, modernization, globalization, europeanization, spreading the higher education among the masses and commodifi cation of knowledge. The attempt of their analysis will allow to highlight the co-occurrence of challenges, chances and threats, brought by these trends. He will create also a possibility of outlining possible scenarios of of civilization changes in Poland and not only.

W sytuacji kryzysu nie tylko w wymiarze ekonomicznym, ale i społecznym, politycznym oraz kulturowym trendy cywilizacyjne. przybierając wyrazistszą postać, stają się dostępniejsze dla opisu i analizy. W artykule przedstawione zostaną tylko te wybrane, dotyczące szczególnie społeczeństwa i wiedzy: liberalizacja, sekularyzacja, modernizacja, globalizacja, europeizacja, umasowienie szkolnictwa wyższego i utowarowienie wiedzy. Próba ich analizy pozwoli uwypuklić współwystępowanie wyzwań, szans i zagrożeń niesionych przez te trendy. Stworzy też możliwość zarysowania możliwych scenariuszy zmian cywilizacyjnych w Polsce, i nie tylko.
