This paper is based on methodological reflections which follow the tradition of contrastivestudies in text linguistics. Drawing on the claim about cultural specificity of genres, the paper asks about conditions that genre comparison must meet in order to make inferences about their cultural embeddedness.Those reflectionsreferto the analysis of parallel textswhich is employed in a variety of contrastive culturalstudies.The second part ofthe paper presents an extended variant of parallel text analysis, based on a comparison offoursubcorpora, with two ofthem representing the same language each time. The possible conclusions as well as further questions provoked by this methodological idea are illustrated with two examples.

Niniejsza rozprawa opiera się na rozważaniach metodologicznych wpisujących się w tradycję badań kontrastywnych z zakresu lingwistyki tekstu. Mając na względzie tezę o kulturowym nacechowaniu gatunków, pierwsze z zadanych pytań dotyczyć będzie warunków, których spełnienie umożliwia(łoby) porównanie gatunków w takim stopniu, by móc określić aspekty ich kulturowości. Rozważania te opierać się będą w pierwszej kolejności na tzw. analizie tekstów paralelnych, stosowanej powszechnie w pracach o charakterze kontrastywno-kulturowym. Drugą część rozprawy stanowi poszerzony wariant analizy tekstów paralelnych, oparty na porównaniu czterech korpusów cząstkowych, po dwa dla każdego z dwóch analizowanych języków. Wnioski a także kolejne nasuwające się pytania wynikające z tak obranego postępowania metodologicznego, zostaną przedstawione w odniesieniu do dwóch wybranych przykładów.

The paper presents an outline of topics under research in contrastive text linguistics in Polish and German studies, the development phases of the discipline in question as well as postulates for the future. It is noticed that Polish specialists in the field of German studies avail themselves in their contrastive research mainly of the specialized literature by German-language (neo-)philologists. They also publish their research results in German thus contributing to the German-language specialized literature. As a consequence Polish text linguists can familiarize themselves with the afore-mentioned research results only to a limited degree. As for the scope of research, in contrastive linguistics one can observe increased focus on the comparison of various text genres as well as a turn towards the analysis of discourse.
