The paper outlines how the citizenry of the Gniezno countryside contributed in the Greater Poland Uprising, showing the key role that the region played in the victorious military action. The reader is acquainted with the leading insurgent figures and national activists of all municipalities of the then counties of Gniezno and Witkowo.

Apart from historical studies and monographs, cultural initiatives are an important way of commemorating the Greater Poland Uprising of 1918-1919. Among such undertakings, literary works and products of visual arts are predominant. The greatest number of those are created on round anniversaries of this armed effort. One of their prominent features is realism, as they are intended for the broadest audience.

Film about art has usually belonged to a marginalized genre. Th is article discusses two types of f ilm within the genre: documentaries and creative works. Th e f irst category includes biographies and documentations of the artistic process. An example of this would be Interpretacje, directed by Jarosław Brzozowski. Th e second category utilizes symbols, fantasy, and dramatization. The artist often appears also as an actor. Several components, such as a subjective narration, unique cinematography, use of light, poetic text, and use of montage help establish the charm of the masterpiece. Less used biographical motifs of ten attempt to create a new quality to the genre. Th e best example of such an approach is the ‘f ilm-painting’ of the portrait of Tadeusz Brzozowski in the work Brzuch as directed by Andrzej Papuziński.

The article contains general characteristics of M.A. Bakunin as a political thinker and a philosopher. The author of the essay considers Bakunin as a great thinker whose works contain certain prophecies, as a representative of ideas and processes relating to global integration of the human civilization, as an outstanding mouthpiece of revolution acted as an occasionally repeated phase of development in the historic human evolution. The article mentions that Bakunin’s criticism carries danger to a person hided in the phenomenon of the state and finally contributes to the development of the state, its modernization and formation of bodies relating to institutes (i.e. law) protection, human rights and freedom. This criticism favoured working out some modern theoretical and constitutional doctrines, political institutions intended for the control of negative potential of the state and encouragement of its positive activity.
