This paper presents various aspects of a new Council Regulation (EU) 2016/1103. As a result of the free movement of European citizens within the EU, cross-border marriages come into being very often. Among many issues concerning this subject, the paper addresses in particular EU family law and property-related issues of cross-border marriages, private international law and EU law. An analysis was performed concerning selected aspects of the EU regulation of applicable law as compared to the Polish International Private Law. Especially, the choice of law and a marital agreement are considered methods that can be employed to contractually develop matrimonial property relationships.
