This article contains an edition of an anonymous spiritual treatise in Czech which provides basic instruction for a virtuous Christian life. Like the author, the addressee, clearly a woman, is also unknown. The treatise is preserved only partially in a single copy in manuscript XVII A 18 at the National Library in Prague from the late 14th or early 15th century, together with three different offices of the hours, several texts relating to the Passion of Christ and some prayers, all in the Czech language. The text of this edition is preceded by an introductory study, which includes a linguistic analysis, an inquiry into the sources from which the text was compiled, and a survey of its chief characteristics with regard to contemporary religious tendencies in the Kingdom of Bohemia.
