Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie i wyjaśnienie przyczyn zmian, jakie nastąpiły w pojmowaniu narodu i nacjonalizmu w ciągu minionego stulecia. Główną przyczynę tych zmian autor upatruje w ekspansji ideologii lewicowo-liberalnej oraz w upowszechnieniu praktyk tzw. poprawności politycznej. Wyjaśnia on także, jaki wpływ na negatywną percepcję nacjonalizmu miała ideologizacja kształcenia i spadek jego poziomu w szkołach i na uczelniach. Dodatkowych uzasadnień dostarcza przeprowadzona analiza historyczna zmian w pojmowaniu narodu, a także fragment poświęcony idei narodowej w historii geografii, w którym wykazany jest absurdalny charakter postaw kosmopolitycznych. W konkluzji stwierdzono, że budowa siły narodowej w sferze kultury jest skutecznym narzędziem pozwalającym uniknąć zniszczenia dorobku cywilizacyjnego ludzkości. Istotnym elementem tego przedsięwzięcia jest przestrzeganie zasad racjonalności, a zwłaszcza precyzja języka w edukacji oraz w dyskusji naukowej, która zabezpieczyć ma przed zmianami semantycznymi, takimi jakie miały miejsce w przypadku pojęcia nacjonalizmu.

The purpose of the article is to present and explain the reasons for the changes that have taken place in the perception of the nation and nationalism over the past century. The author sees the main reason for these changes in the expansion of left-liberal ideology and the dissemination of so-called political correctness. He also explains how the ideologization of education and the decline in its level at schools and universities had a negative impact on nationalism. Additional justifications are provided by the historical analysis of changes in the perception of the nation, as well as the fragment dedicated to the national idea in the history of geography, which shows the absurd nature of cosmopolitan attitudes. The conclusion states that building national strength in the sphere of culture is an effective tool to avoid destroying the Western civilization. An important element of this undertaking is compliance with the principles of rationality, and especially the precision of language in education and in scientific discussion, which is to protect against semantic changes, such as occurred in the case of the concept of nationalism.
