The aim of the article is to identify the main elements of the ‟Gospel of life” according to St. John Paul II’s teaching. The Pope built the concept of the Gospel of life as a consistent response to the escalation of the culture of death. It is expressed in its deepest layer in anti-theism that leads to anti-humanism. It also means an anthropological error, breaking the creative relationship of freedom and truth. The consequence of these views is the fi ght against life. In response to this program of devastation of the human life, St. John Paul II proposed in place of anti-theism the proclamation of the ‟Gospel of the love of God to man,” which in turn allows the proclamation of the ‟Gospel of dignity (of the human person), which points not to todays varied category of quality of human life but to the undeniable value of life. In this way, the ‟Gospel of life” can be built, the proclamation of which is the priority of the mission of the Church.

From the beginning of its existence the Church watched the moral side of the human condition. The years preceding the Vatican Council II were marked by a progressing crisis of moral culture; hence undertaking this issue was an urgent need for the Council Fathers. Moral theology of that period, with its casuistry and the individualist concept of morality seemed to have only a slight influence on Christian life. The aim of the Council intervention in the domain of morality was not only a moral revival of the human person, but first of all presentation of the communal aspects of morality. The subject of analyses in the present article is the issue of diagnosis of the state of moral culture in the doctrine of the Vatican Council II and showing the role of the Church in the forming of the moral good and the norms of universal morality in the post-Council period as a certain dialog between the Church and the modern moral culture.

Despite great progress in many diseases treatment and increasingly more advanced technical means, medicine unfortunately still remains helpless in confrontation with some illnesses. Many of them remain incurable. The situation in case of suicides looks differently. In this case we do not remain helpless. Therefore, it is important to search for effective means of self-aggression prevention. It is important to find out about complex etiology of suicidal behaviors in order to effectively help in those crisis situations. Each of them is a loud, though usually hidden, cry for help. The Catholic Church is engaged in suicide prevention. It is realized through the affirmation of human life and not only in her teaching but also in her activity both ministerial and through numerous emergency aid centers. She cooperates with various lay institutions and centers in order to provide the most effective prevention.
