The paper analyzes a document issued by the office of education - the curricular basis for general education in high schools. The theoretical ground for this analysis is Z. Kwieciński's theory of the decagon of education, the theory which is a synthetic presentation of what influences the process of human development. When we interpret the concept of education as the broadest category describing the causes and effects of the changes in students' personalities, we may accomplish harmony and integrity through an even influence within the following areas of issues (sides): globalization, etatization, nationalization, collectivization, politicization, bureaucratization, and professionalization, socialization, inculturation and personalization, formation and juridification, education and humanization, and hominization. The analysis of the curricular basis deals with each of the above sides. One has to find appropriate areas in their educational purposes, school tasks, curricula and students' achievements in particular subjects of high school. This analysis entitles us to conclude that each of the wall of the model of education is reflected in the curricular basis. It also records lack of particular issues, an important task for theoretical studies and a hint for the author of curricula and teachers.

The author of the article points to conflicts resulting from several consecutive politically and ideologically motivated moves of both structural and curricular school reform, and outlines far-reaching, negative consequences of such activities. She explains differences between such concepts as carricular basis and curriculum and analises possible misunderstanding or misinterpretations which are likely to occur if these concepts are confused with each other or wrongly defined. Moreover, she describes the inviolable order of several necessary procedures which will need to be undertaken while planning the reform, if the reform is to succeed at all. She also draws the reader’s attention to the cultural and civilizational context in which the contemporary school functions, and questions the actual purpose and the point of boad general school education under the circumstances where the cultural paradigms are suddenly changed. She considers teacher training to be of paramount importance here and emphasises the fact that it is necessary to perceive the concept of methodics as a social activity which involves multiple fields of study. Furthermore, she suggests that politicians should be excluded from influncing the educational system directly.

The main problem of this article is the relation of Polish language and literature education to the idea of integration in elementary education. In the preface part of the text the author reports discussions around the idea of integration and integrated education and takes a stance on vagueness of the terms and misunderstandings around them. The first part of the article is devoted to the necessity and special role of Polish education (especially language one) of the future elementary education teachers in the context of integration demands. The second part is the analysis of possibilities of language and literature education use in the process of integration of pupils' knowledge, experience and skills. The author refers to the demands of curricular basis (podstawa programowa) and offers practical solutions that may help in its realization. In conclusion, it is stated the necessity to keep the special character of Polish language and literature education that should be focused above all on language awareness, value of words and on literary works. The integrating dimension cannot obscure these most important, peculiar aims.
