Until recently, one of the major barriers to the development of the Chinese economy was underdeveloped and outdated transport system, which together with geographical and climatic conditions and the location of the resource base, labor and industrial infrastructure has been and is still responsible for significant regional disparities in China. In the analyzed period there have been many significant investments in infrastructure. Today, transportation is a major sector of the economy that can impress achieved results both in quality and quantity relating to infrastructure, the weight of transported cargo and transport performance. Transportation in China has undergone rapid but effective makeover to enable it to play a significant factor modernization of the country, creating jobs and contributing significantly to the increase of trade in goods in international trade.

Do niedawna jedną z poważniejszych barier rozwoju chińskiej gospodarki był słabo rozwinięty i przestarzały system transportowy, który łącznie z warunkami geograficzno-klimatycznymi oraz lokalizacją bazy surowcowej, siły roboczej oraz infrastruktury przemysłowej był i jest nadal odpowiedzialny za duże dysproporcje regionalne Chin. W analizowanym okresie dokonano wielu znaczących inwestycji w infrastrukturę. Dziś transport jest jedną z fundamentalnych gałęzi gospodarki, która może imponować osiąganymi wynikami zarówno w jakości i ilości odnoszącej się do infrastruktury, jak i masy przewiezionych ładunków i wykonanej pracy przewozowej. Transport w Chinach przeszedł szybką, ale skuteczną metamorfozę pozwalającą mu na odgrywanie roli istotnego czynnika unowocześniania kraju, stwarzania miejsc pracy i wydatnie przyczyniającego się do zwiększenia obrotów towarowych w międzynarodowej wymianie towarowej.
