Knowledge management is becoming an increasingly important business resource not only in the development and innovation process, but also in securing an organization’s competitiveness and survival in the environment. In view of the fact that there is no full consent as regards adopting a universal definition, knowledge management can be regarded as a concept encompassing methods of simplifying, enhancing, sharing, distributing and creating knowledge within an organization. The dominant approach of contemporary business operations is based on business intelligence, which, including Data Warehouse as its integral part, represents a highly significant component in knowledge management. As the application of information technologies provides the key support in conducting all business activities, from operative to highly complex ones, this article considers the significance and functional application of data warehouses in the knowledge management system.

The processes of modeling, design and verification of business scenarios falls into one of the most difficult areas of analytical systems. In order to simplify the implementation of those processes and introduce brand new business scenarios, it is necessary to access credible, integrated, and historical information. The article presents a data warehouse model, which is equipped with an adaptive mechanisms and servo adjustment methods (changing information needs of the organization) that will power the processes of construction, verification and modeling of business scenarios with the necessary data associated with the current and projected strategy of the organization. In addition, the data warehouse will provide analysts (for the process of creating business scenarios) with highly credible and historical data obtained from previous organization activities. This will help them (through simulation) to assess the expected scenarios impact.

The article shows the key issues of the data warehouse evolution in recent years. It is divided into six general parts – in the first part a theoretical back-ground was presented to classify the most common used definitions of the data warehouse. In the second and third part the key issues of the data warehouse evolution were presented, such as treating unstructured data. The fourth part of the paper presents the analysis of the data warehouse attributes, whether they are still valid and useful. In the fifth part the paper solutions to mitigate data warehousing weaknesses were presented. Last part shows conclusions.

In the paper, an evaluation of the efficiency of the application of ERP class integrated systems and BI tools was carried out, through analysis of two cases micro-and-small enterprises (MSEs). An analysis of the observed successes allowed precise definition of key factors in their successes or failures, in the scope of the efficiency of BI tools application in management. Confirmed rules for guaranteeing of unconditional compatibility of the contents of data warehouses with the transactional databases are, in the opinion of the author, a necessary condition for long-term success with BI application in decisions-making processes. The solutions proposed in the paper for a data processing organisation system were effectively verified over several years’ use at the POZKAL printing house in Inowroclaw. Such solutions force compatibility of transactional databases with data warehouse contents, an area often underestimated by the authors of other publications in this area.

The article presents current status of IT implementation in Polish insurance companies. Afterwards the man issues connected with information management and proposal of dealing with these issues, due to the implementation of Business Intelligence system, is presented. Definition, structure and scope of application as well as the Business Intelligence system implementation methodology, with a particular consideration for the insurance market character, are presented. Article is summed up with examples of effective Business Intelligence systems implementations in selected insurance companies.

The genesis, main definitions, scope of application and real examples from business implementations will be described for each type of analysis. There will be presented copyrighted method of knowledge discovering in databases, together with practical guidelines for its proper and effective use in the enterprise.

The article describes issues related to the construction and functioning of a data warehouse. This is a series of processes supporting the activities of enterprises and seem to be necessary in the implementation of other concepts and solutions of Industry 4.0. The study also explains the processes that are necessary to create a warehouse, key components and the essence of operation. The advantages and practices used in the field of business and the IT sphere itself were analyzed. The possibility of transferring the warehouse to cloud computing was also presented as well as the main suppliers offering such services were presented. The article can be a starting point for more detailed considerations on analytics, reporting and data archiving in a modern enterprise.

W artykule opisano zagadnienia dotyczące budowy oraz funkcjonowania hurtowni danych. Jest to szereg procesów wspomagających działalność przedsiębiorstw i wydaje się być obecnie koniecznych we wdrażaniu pozostałych koncepcji i rozwiązań Przemysłu 4.0. W opracowaniu zostały wyjaśnione również procesy, jakie są konieczne do utworzenia hurtowni, kluczowe składniki, a także istota jej działania. Przeanalizowane zostały zalety oraz praktyki stosowane w zakresie biznesu oraz samej sferze IT. Przedstawiona została także możliwość przeniesienia hurtowni do chmury obliczeniowej oraz głównych dostawców oferujących takie usługi. Artykuł może być punktem wyjścia do bardziej szczegółowych rozważań dotyczących analityki, raportowania i archiwizacji danych we współczesnym przedsiębiorstwie.

Obecnie na rynku dostępna jest szeroka gama rozwiązań w obszarze technologii informatycznych wspomagających zarządzanie. Narzędzia analityki biznesowej przekształcają-ce dane w użyteczne informacje dynamicznie rozwinęły się w ostatnich latach, występując dziś pod pojęciem Business Intelligence. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie systemu BI. Wyjaśniono m.in. termin hurtowni danych, procesów odpowiedzialnych za zasilanie danymi, funkcje penetracji i odkrywania danych. W dalszej części dokonano porów-nania systemów transakcyjnych i analitycznych oraz szerzej omówiono analityczne możliwości BI. Zaprezentowano wybrane narzędzia oraz praktyczny przykład wdrożenia w firmie Berendsen Textile Services.

Companies are searching for IT solutions to improve management process. Increasingly information resources are regarded as the key determinant to make appropriate decisions, that have impact on strategic position of the company. Functions including acquisition, gathering, processing and delivering of information support optimal company man-agement. There are many IT solutions supporting enterprise management available on the market. Business analysis tools transforming data into useful information have developed dynamically in recent years. They are known today as Business Intelligence. The aim of this article is to present various functions of BI system. The article describes da-tawarehouse, data mining and data drilling, among other things. Author compares transaction and analytical systems. Finally, an example of implementation of BI in the Berendsen Textile Services company is presented.

Th e scope, range, time, and functional character of business are changed. The Internet plays a special role in the change of the nature and scope of the operations of the business. Our article tries to identify IT tools such as Data Warehouse (DM) systems, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems, Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), and Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP), an integrated IT system for management support, and to indicate their influence on the change of the traditional production process management model.

DW), systemy zarządzania relacjami z klientami (CRM), elektroniczna wymiana danych (EDI) i planowanie zasobów przedsiębiorstwa (ERP), zintegrowany system IT dla wspierania zarządzania oraz wskazać ich wpływ na zmianę modelu zarządzania procesem tradycyjnej produkcji.
