Many of the questions posed in the discussion on the modern state education policy are those connected with the search for ways of emancipation of deaf. Many issues of practical importance refers to the expectations of the deaf determined by diversity and specificity of their functioning , aspirations for autonomy or complex expectations regarding access to sign language. All this happens with simultaneous constraints to meet existing needs and changes achieved in legislation with a clear increase in the expression of the vital interests of one group in an incoherent community of the deaf.

The objective of the article is presentation of people with hearing disability as a community who create an own culture and its characteristic. The etiology of forming the deaf community has been presented, as well as criteria of recognizing it as a language and cultural minority. A presentation of terms such as multiculturalism, interculturalism and references of assumptions of international education to social and cultural aspects of deaf people’s functioning in the environment of people with functional sense of hearing has been provided.

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie społeczności osób z niepełnosprawnością narządu słuchu jako zbiorowości ludzi tworzących własną kulturę i jej charakterystyka. Przedstawione została etiologia powstawania społeczności Głuchych oraz kryteria uznania jej za mniejszość językowo-kulturową. Przedstawiono pojęcia wielokulturowości i międzykulturowości oraz odniesiono założenia edukacji międzykulturowej do społecznych i kulturowych aspektów funkcjonowania osób głuchych w otoczeniu osób ze sprawnym zmysłem słuchu.

Głusi ludzie posługujący się naturalnym językiem migowym tworzą społeczność Głuchych. Postrzegani są oni coraz częściej przez badaczy jako mniejszość językowa, kulturowa czy etniczna. Język, którym się posługują, pozwala im nie tylko na porozumiewanie się, ale też na tworzenie odrębnej kultury. Dzięki temu językowi oraz odmiennym doświadczeniom życiowym powstaje też unikatowy humor Głuchych, który odgrywa szczególną rolę, ponieważ służy spajaniu społeczności oraz kształtowaniu poczucia jedności. Artykuł pokazuje charakterystyczne tematy żartów Głuchych, do których należą: prezentowanie głuchoty jako wartości, relacja Głuchy–słyszący, żartowanie z samych siebie. W artykule humor Głuchych został przeanalizowany w odniesieniu do cech humoru etnicznego.

Deaf people who communicate by natural sign language form a Deaf community. Various researchers frequently treat them as a linguistic, cultural and ethnic minority. The language which is used by the deaf allows them not only to communicate but also it enables them to form a separate culture. Both the sign language and different life experience contribute to the development of a unique sense of humor of the deaf. It plays a special role in the deaf environment because it bonds the whole community and shapes the sense of unity. The article presents the most characteristic topics of jokes present in the deaf culture. They are as follows: presenting deafness as a value, the relationship between a deaf person and a hearing one, making fun of oneself. In the article, Deaf humor has been analyzed with reference to characteristics of ethnic humor.
