Die Mission der Universität des einundzwanzigsten Jahrhunderts neu zu definieren und die sogenannte „dritte Mission“ – den öffentlichen Dienst – effektiv zu erfüllen, ist in erster Linie eine Frage der Werkzeuge, nicht der Mission selbst. Daher wird das Problem der Autorität in der Wissenschaft, das Problem des sozialen Vertrauens in Menschen der Wissenschaft und die Verbindung der Idee der Zivilgesellschaft, der Öffentlichkeit mit Veränderungen im Ethos der Menschen der Wissenschaft analysiert. In den im letzten Jahrzehnt veröffentlichten Dokumenten, Projekten und Texten, die der sozialen Verantwortung der Wissenschaft gewidmet sind, wird die größte Aufmerksamkeit den Beziehungen zum wirtschaftlichen Umfeld, der Zusammenarbeit mit externen Interessenpartnern, der Anpassung der Studierenden an den Arbeitsmarkt geschenkt, während andere Aufgaben der Universität marginalisiert werden. Das Ziel der Studie ist es daher, die Komplementarität zwischen der Umsetzung von Aufgaben in Bezug auf Wissenschaft, Lehre und Mitgestaltung der Zivilgesellschaft zu betonen, die sowohl aus den Prinzipien des Ethos der Menschen der Wissenschaft als auch aus der Tradition des Ethos der Intelligenz resultiert, die in allen Arten von Demokratie in der Geschichte Polens vorhanden ist.

Redefining the mission of the 21st century university and effectively fulfilling the so-called ,,third mission” – the public service – is a question primarily of tools, not of the mission itself. For this reason, the present contribution will analyse the problem of authority in science, the problem of social trust in people of science, and, finally, the link between the idea of civil society and the public sphere with the changes in the ethos of the scientist. In documents, projects, and texts on the social responsibility of science published in the last decade, the most attention is paid to relations with the economic environment, cooperation with external stakeholders, and adapting students to the labor market at the expense of marginalizing other tasks of the university. The aim of this work is therefore to emphasize the complementarity between the implementation of tasks related to science and teaching and co-shaping the civil society, which results both from the principles of the ethos of the scientist and the tradition of the ethos of intelligentsia present in all types of democracy in the history of Poland.

Redefinicja misji uniwersytetu XXI wieku i skuteczne spełnianie tzw. „trzeciej misji” – służby publicznej, to kwestia przede wszystkim narzędzi, a nie samej misji. W związku z tym analizie zostanie poddany problem autorytetu w nauce, problem społecznego zaufania do ludzi nauki oraz powiązanie idei społeczeństwa obywatelskiego, sfery publicznej z przemianami etosu ludzi nauki. W dokumentach, projektach i tekstach poświęconych społecznej odpowiedzialności nauki publikowanych w ostatniej dekadzie najwięcej uwagi poświęca się relacji z otoczeniem ekonomicznym, współpracy z zewnętrznymi interesariuszami, przystosowaniem studentów do rynku pracy, marginalizując inne zadania uczelni. Celem pracy jest więc podkreślenie komplementarności między realizacją zadań wobec nauki, nauczania i współkształtowania społeczeństwa obywatelskiego, co wynika zarówno z zasad etosu ludzi nauki, jak i z tradycji etosu inteligencji, obecnej we wszystkich rodzajach demokracji w dziejach Polski.
