The purpose of the article is to present the proposal of a Polish language teacher from Łódź to bring closer the ways of learning by the student (both various linguistic exercises and didactic methods) of language elements that were determinants of his oral expression. The solutions applied in the interwar period led to the achievement of language skills, which, by making the classroom situations resemble authentic communication situations, naturally prepared for communicating themselves and the world of their values and learning about the world of others. It seems that even today it is worth using the opportunities of speaking exercises off ered by Czapczyński, adapting them to the specifi c didactic situation and remembering to provide the learner with the possibility of sustainable development of language competences.

This article tries to elaborate a competence profile of Polish students in relation to the academic literacy in the second language (E/LE). The study of the different cognitive (sub) processes that appear in the development of writing has been realized across paragraphs of evaluation that will allow the elaboration of a qualitative analysis of the competence levels; whereas the findings obtained from the linguistic examined corpus will have to affect, both the teacher and the apprentices in the improvement of the teaching and learning processes of the target language.

Celem artykułu jest zwrócenie uwagi na słabości kształcenia umiejętności odbioru tekstów werbalnych i ikonicznych w gimnazjum. Podstawą artykułu są wyniki pomiaru osiągnięć przeprowadzonego w 60 losowo dobranych gimnazjach z sześciu województw. Punktem wyjścia do analizy wyników było założenie, że na czytanie składa się wiele operacji językowych, psychologicznych i kulturowych. Szczególną uwagę poświęcono akwizycji słownictwa oraz wpływowi świadomości językowej i gatunkowej na umiejętność odbioru tekstów pisanych. Praca nad tymi elementami jest szczególnie ważna w dobie dominacji oralności oraz ekspansji wizualności w kulturze.

The aim of the article is to point out deficiencies in teaching reading in lower secondary schools inferred from results of the achievement test administered in 60 random schools from six voivodships. The analysis of the results rests on the assumption that reading is composed of several linguistic, psychological and cultural operations. The article is focused on the acquisition of vocabulary and the impact of linguistic and genetic awareness on the perception of written texts. The development of these components is particularly important in the era of orality and visuality domination.
