The Effectiveness of Digital Comics based Multicultural to Improve Social Care Character of Elementary School Students

This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of multicultural-based digital comic media on the social care character of elementary school students. This study used a quantitative research approach with the type of Quasi Experiment. The trial involved 2 classes, namely IVA (control class) and IVB (experiment class) of Brajan State Elementary School, containing 20 students. The independent t-test shows a difference in social-caring character between students who use multicultural-based digital comic media during the learning process and those who do not use multicultural-based digital comic media, with a significance value (p) less than 0.05, which is 0.017. This study concludes that multicultural- based digital comic media is declared effective to be used to improve the social care character of grade IV elementary school students.

Webtoons are a type of digital comics, which creation began in the early 2000s in South Korea. The term describing works of this type originated from a combination of the two words "web" and "cartoon". The works in this format have a vertical layout of content to make them easier to read on mobile devices. In addition, they contain colourful graphics and an uncomplicated text layer. Chapters of each title are published serially, generally once a week. This article aims to present the issue of webtoons and their industry in South Korea. The information included in the publication allows to conclude that the market in question is one of the central sectors of local cultural production.

Webtoony są rodzajem komiksów cyfrowych, których tworzenie zapoczątkowano we wczesnych latach dwutysięcznych na terenie Korei Południowej. Termin określający dzieła tego typu powstał z połączenia dwóch słów „web” oraz „cartoon”. Publikacje w tymże formacie posiadają wertykalny układ treści, który ma ułatwiać ich czytanie na urządzeniach mobilnych. Ponadto zawierają one kolorowe grafiki i nieskomplikowaną warstwę tekstową. Rozdziały poszczególnych tytułów udostępniane są seryjnie – na ogół raz w tygodniu. Niniejszy artykuł ma na celu ukazanie problematyki webtoonów oraz ich branży w Korei Południowej. Zamieszczone w pracy informacje pozwalają stwierdzić, iż omawiany rynek jest jednym z centralnych sektorów lokalnej produkcji kulturowej.
