Queer Indiscipline, Decolonial Revolt. The Production of Undisciplined Knowledges in the Neoliberal Age

"As an intervention into a domesticated academic knowledge production and an increasingly normative queer theorizing, Queer Indiscipline, Decolonial Revolt asks for the proliferation of other modalities of thinking and writing. The context of such interrogation is the neoliberal restructuring of the university which comfortably accommodates criticality. Where criticality has lost its sting, this paper calls for a daring indiscipline opposing political, public, and scientific disciplining. This brings practices of doing knowledge and not the knowledges as such into attention. An intimacy between the queer and the undisciplined is established by referencing the resistance to assimilationist politics and practices as queer theory’s principal asset. Yet, undisciplined knowledges are not only geared towards challenging the bounds of the discipline(s), but also, and more broadly, towards decolonial futures. Queer Indiscipline, Decolonial Revolt explores various moments of concomitant unlearning and improvisation on and beyond the academic stage. The piece conducts three non-linear explorations. The first part analyzes the making of a hierarchical knowledge machine as part of capitalist modernity and revisits moments of queer and black queer theorizing that challenge the dividing lines between high/low, sensible/nonsensical, intellectual/corporeal, theory/practice, speech/chatter, etc. The second part discusses the masterful subject as the agent of knowledge. While the persistence and the pervasiveness of such master fantasy gets acknowledged, the verve of this paper is oriented towards the modality of queer dispossession. The final section gives way to the sabotage inherent in the unruly rhythm of life. Such sabotage is tested to counteract the frameworks, formats and concepts which articulate intellectuality on a more fundamental level. This advances the deconstruction of intellectuality to the terrifying and beautiful point where intellectuality is co-extensive with the social."

Living through Precarity: A Butlerian Study of Jhumpa Lahiri’s The Lowland

This article aims to explore Judith Butler’s concept of precarity in Jhumpa Lahiri’s The Lowland. The questions this study seeks to find answers to are: What are the various manifestations of Butler’s notion of precarity in The Lowland? And to what extent does the Butlerian sense of agency allow the main characters of The Lowland the possi- bility of overcoming precarity? This research shows how enforced dispossession, which is a product of globally-imposed precarity, incites violence and leads to the involuntary migration of the subjects. In addition, it is revealed that precarity plays a segregative role in escalating religious and tribal conflicts in the post-Partition India. More importantly, in the final analysis, this study suggests that Butler’s reiterative sense of agency fails to account for the normative dynamics of precarity which is at work in the diasporic context of The Lowland.

Praca została poświęcona odpowiedzi na pytanie, czy byli właściciele wywłaszczonych nieruchomości mogą skutecznie podważać czynności prawne rozporządzające dokonane przez Skarb Państwa (odpowiednio jednostki samorządu terytorialnego), w stosunku do tych nieruchomości w sytuacji, gdy cel wywłaszczenia nie został zrealizowany. Podstawą analizy był fikcyjny stan faktyczny, na podstawie którego przybliżono wykładnię przepisów prawa. Szczególny nacisk został położony na omówienie przepisów dotyczących gospodarki nieruchomościami. Na tej podstawie rozważano, czy jeśli w dacie dokonania czynności prawnej (zbycia nieruchomości) istniały przesłanki negatywne jej dokonania, w szczególności zostały spełnione przesłanki zwrotu wywłaszczonej nieruchomości jako zbędnej ze względu na cel wywłaszczenia, to osoby trzecie (byli właściciele nieruchomości) mają skuteczne uprawnienie do żądania zwrotu takich nieruchomości, ewentualnie, czy i jakie roszczenia przysługują takim osobom. Niezrealizowanie celu wywłaszczenia może skutkować zwrotem wywłaszczonej nieruchomości. Natomiast istotne jest, czy Skarb Państwa jest obowiązany informować byłych właścicieli o możliwości zwrotu nieruchomości, a jeśli tak, to jakie są skutki prawne niewykonania tego obowiązku. Przybliżono również kwestię wpływu rozpoczęcia inwestycji, która uzasadniała dokonanie wywłaszczenia na ocenę zasadności żądania jej zwrotu na rzecz byłych właścicieli.

The work is devoted to resolving the question whether former owners of dispossessed property can effectively challenge disposing legal actions taken by the State Treasury (local authorities respectively) in relation to the property in the case the purpose of dispossession has not been achieved. Underpinning this analysis was a fictional actual state, which also provided a basis for an interpretation of laws. Particular emphasis was placed on a discussion of the laws relating to the economy of property. Basing on this, a careful consideration was given to the issue whether any third parties (former owners of the properties) have any justified demands or claims towards the property if there has been some negative premise on the date of performing legal actions /dispossession/, particularly if the prerequisites have been met concerning the return of the dispossessed property as unnecessary with regard to the aim of the dispossession. Not achieving the purpose of the dispossession may result in the return of the dispossessed property. What is crucial, however, is whether the Ministry of Treasury is obliged to inform former owners about the possibility of returning the property, and, if so, what the legal consequences of not fulfilling this obligation are. The paper also discusses the influence of starting the investment which justified the dispossession on the legitimacy of the demand for its return to former owners.

Distance and nearness in mysticism of Saint John of the Cross. A phenomenological study

This article is concerned with a phenomenological exploration of Western mysticism, more concretely the mysticism of Saint John of the Cross. The research lies within the context of broader phenomenological inquiries of the phenomenology of the person as well as the phenomenology of the religious experience. The first part briefly outlines the author’s methodological and thematic standpoint. The article then clarifies the basic concepts of ‘distance’, ‘nearness’ and ‘desire’. In so doing, it will be able to present the philosophical conclusions arising from the elaborated perspective: the crucial role of passivity, the question of appropriating identity and the essential character of mysticism. It concludes with an interpretation of mysticism as the most radical experience of interpersonality.

Artykuł jest fenomenologicznym studium mistyki zachodniej, a zwłaszcza mistyki św. Jana od Krzyża. Badania są prowadzone w szerszym kontekście fenomenologii osoby i fenomenologii doświadczenia religijnego. Część pierwsza określa metodologiczny i merytoryczny punkt wyjścia badań. Następnie wyjaśnia się pojęcia „oddalenia”, „bliskości” i „pragnienia”, co prowadzi do sformułowania filozoficznych wniosków pojawiających się w przyjętej perspektywie badawczej: fundamentalne znaczenie „bierności”, kwestię ‘utraty’ tożsamości i istotny charakter mistyki. W konkluzji interpretuje się mistykę jako najbardziej radykalne doświadczenie relacji międzyosobowej.
