The Days of Culture, Education, Book, and Press (until 1973 – the Days of Education, Book, and Press) in the years 1971-1989 was an annual campaign with goals, agenda, and forms settled by the authorities of the party and the state. Analysis of its program, including anniversaries being celebrated, indicates, that until 1989 they were planned to bring together (adequately interpreted) elements of national tradition and current political goals of the PRP authorities, their ideological, Marxist, „revolutionary” background. Relatively broad acceptance for referring to national past (was it verbal only or actual – to be settled in future research) makes programs of these Days of the 70s and 80s of the 20th century significantly different from those from the Stalinism period. Scale and forms of the events had been evolving, due to social, economic and political changes of that time. The most important and influencing concepts of the Days were: legitimizational concepts of the authorities, activities of political opposition, the „Solidarity” revolution, the martial law, and economic crisis, resulting in difficulties in the book production processes.

W ostatnich latach ukazało się szereg raportów na temat kultury. Korzystając z tych opracowań można wyprowadzić pewne uogólnienia dotyczące animacji. Temu właśnie poświęcony jest niniejszy artykuł. W pierwszej części uwaga skupiona jest głównie na domach kultury, gdyż właśnie te instytucje są szczególnie predestynowane do podejmowania działań animacyjnych. Z dostępnych badań wynika jednak, że zdecydowana większość domów kultury nie podejmuje takiej aktywności i w rezultacie funkcjonuje w swoistej, strukturalnej pustce. Obserwacje te skłaniają do wniosku, że szczególnie w polskich warunkach bardzo istotny jest społeczny aspekt animacji i jej nastawienie na wytwarzanie struktur pomostowych umożliwiających pełną partycypację w działalności domu kultury. W drugiej części tekstu podjęta jest próba uporządkowania pola pojęciowego związanego z animacją, która zostaje odróżniona od upowszechniania kultury oraz organizowania czasu wolnego.

Recently a few reports about the culture and cultural institutions has been appeared. Referring to them we are able to make some generalizations connected to the animation. In the present article we consider these problems. In the first part we pay attention on cultural centers (so called cultural houses) because the institutions are intended to take animation activities. However, it appears from available researches that majority of them does not take such a function. Thus, they are functioning in the structural vacuity. The observations lead to the conclusion that particularly in Polish circumstances social point of view is very important in animation. It would allow to create the bridge structure which could enable full participation in cultural house activities. In the second part of the article we are trying to arrange a set of notions which regards to the animation. We are also differentiate animation, dissemination of culture and organizing of leisure.
