Small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) are considered an important part of all modern economies. The economic importance of this group of enterprises due to the creation of substantial part of employment and value added. Research studies are an attempt to assess the impact of the global crisis on mutual relations between the small and medium enterprises and large companies sector. A case study was conducted on selected European economies and two sub periods: 2002 – 2007 and 2008 – 2010. Established geo – demographic criterion for so – called major economies includes: Germany, France, Italy, Great Britain, Spain and Poland. The evaluation criteria include indicators of stability of employment and gross value added in 2008 – 2010 in relation to the period preceding the crisis.
