The principles of accounting and fi nancial reporting are subject to legislative regulations. In the EU area, these are expressed in the form of fi nancial reporting directives. Their purpose is to ensure harmonization and comparability of fi nancial reports gathered from financial organizations across the EU area. The paper presents the origins and evolution of the EU directives on accounting and fi nancial reporting standards, with particular emphasis on the impact of the new European Parliament and Council directive on Polish accounting legislation.

Dostosowanie się elektroenergetyki polskiej do rygorystycznych standardów ochrony środowiska powoduje konieczność ponoszenia znacznych nakładów i kosztów z tym związanych. W sposób szczególny zaostrzone normy środowiskowe dotyczą przedsiębiorstw wytwórczych elektroenergetyki – dużych źródeł spalania paliw. Dostosowanie się elektroenergetyki do standardów ekologicznych spowodowało obniżenie konkurencyjności elektrowni na wspólnym rynku europejskim. Konkurencyjność wyrażona między innym udziałem elektrowni w rynku i rentownością sprzedaży energii, obniżyła się w związku z koniecznością dostosowania się elektrowni zawodowych w Polsce do standardów ekologicznych. Istnieje wzajemna korelacja pomiędzy konkurencyjnością elektroenergetyki w Polsce, a koniecznością dostosowania się elektrowni do standardów ekologicznych. Potwierdziły to badania własne i dodatnia korelacja na poziomie średnim i wysokim pomiędzy poniesionymi nakładami i kosztami, związanymi z dostosowaniem się do standardów ekologicznych elektrowni, a ich konkurencyjnością.

The adjustment of Polish electrical power engineering to rigorous standards of environmental protection gives rise to the necessity to incur substantial outlays and related costs. Tightened environmental standards concern particularly manufacturing enterprises of electrical power engineering – substantial sources of fuel burning. The adjustment of electrical power engineering to ecological standards has given rise to reducing the competitiveness of power plants on the common European market. Competitiveness expressed, among other things, by the participation of power plants in the market and profitability of energy sales, has decreased in connection with the necessity for professional power plants in Poland to adjust to ecological standards. There is a mutual correlation between the competitiveness of electrical power engineering in Poland and the necessity for power plants to adjust to ecological standards, which was confirmed by their own research and positive correlation on the average and high level between the incurred outlays and costs, connected with the adjustment of power plants to ecological power plants and their competitiveness.
