The universal legislator, because of equality in the dignity of all the faithful, concern that everyone has access to the sacraments according to his disposition and the possibility of their fruitful reception. Therefore, one cannot agree with the statement that people with  intellectual disabilities have limited access to the  sacrament of confirmation, because it is not necessary for salvation. The article presents theological and juridical arguments that prove that the faithful with  mental disabilities can receive confirmation. People who will most likely never use reason enough to be  considered independent should not be deprived of the gifts of the Church’s spiritual treasury. This theological and juridical reflection is an attempt to discuss with  sceptics, and at the same time it can be an  encouragement for parents and pastors to look for ways to the best pastoral care of people with disabilities in order to fruitfully receive this sacrament.

Prawodawca powszechny ze względu na równość w godności wszystkich wiernych troszczy się o to, aby każdy miał dostęp do sakramentów na miarę swoich dyspozycji i możliwości ich owocnego przyjęcia. Dlatego nie można zgodzić się z twierdzeniem, że osoby z niepełnosprawnością intelektualną mają ograniczony dostęp do sakramentu bierzmowania, ponieważ nie jest on niezbędny do zbawienia. Artykuł przedstawia argumenty teologiczne oraz prawne, które dowodzą, że wierni z upośledzeniem umysłowym mogą otrzymać bierzmowanie. Osoby, które najprawdopodobniej nigdy nie osiągną w wystarczającym stopniu używania rozumu, nie powinny być pozbawiane darów ze skarbca duchowego Kościoła. To teologiczno-prawne rozważanie jest próbą dyskusji ze sceptykami, a jednocześnie może być zachętą dla rodziców i pasterzy, aby szukać dróg do jak najlepszego duszpasterstwa osób niepełnosprawnych w celu owocnego przyjęcia tego sakramentu.
