In the paper the definition of agrotourism and its specific features in reference to rural tourism were under discussion. The agrotourist accommodation establishments in 2012, bed places, tourists in agrotourist accommodation and overnight stays of tourists in tourist accommodation have been also analyzed. Agrotourism development is determined by many factors, where the most important are natural, social, economic and legal conditions. Agrotouristic activity brings not only the measurable economic benefits in a form of additional income for agricultural family. It also contributes to creation of new work places, activation of local community and more aesthetic appearance of villages.

W opracowaniu przedstawiono pojęcie agroturystyki oraz określono jej specyficzne cechy w odniesieniu do turystyki i turystyki wiejskiej. Zaprezentowano także stan rozwoju agroturystyki w Polsce na koniec 2012 roku, uwzględniając liczbę obiektów agroturystycznych, miejsc noclegowych, udzielonych noclegów oraz turystów korzystających z usług noclegowych. Rozwój agroturystyki determinowany jest wieloma czynnikami, wśród których najważniejsze są uwarunkowania przyrodnicze, społeczne, ekonomiczne i prawne. Działalność agroturystyczna generuje nie tylko korzyści finansowe w postaci dodatkowych dochodów dla gospodarstw domowych rolników, ale przyczynia się także do kreowania nowych miejsc pracy, aktywizacji środowiska lokalnego i estetyzacji wsi.
