The article attempts to explore some of the associations between the theoretical terms of the expectancy theory of worker motivation and official data regarding wage statistics. Time series of decile indicators of nominal and real wages in Poland are analyzed in a manner similar to quantile regression. All decile indicators of nominal wages are rising, but the real value of the decile indicators rises only for the highest ones, while the rest is almost stagnant for the years 1992-2008. The described effects, being the necessary conditions of the money illusion, probably shape subjective expectancies in a different way not only for nominal and real wages, but also for high and low pay. Such a way of reasoning has not yet been found in the literature on the subject.

The authors present results of a study which attempted to use indirect estimation methods (including a method accounting for spatial correlation) to estimate certain characteristics enterprises. The study relied on data from the DG-1 survey conducted by the Statistical Office in Poznan, which provides the basis for most of the short-term indicators used to describe enterprise activity in Poland. The DG-1 survey is a monthly report about economic activity, which collects crucial information about economic entities, their activity, production and stocks. The survey is addressed to enterprises employing over 9 people.

W referacie zostaną przedstawione wyniki badania, w którym podjęto próbę wykorzystania metod estymacji pośredniej (w tym także metody, która uwzględnia korelację przestrzenną) do oszacowania pewnych charakterystyk przedsiębiorstw. W badaniu wykorzystano informacje pochodzące z badania DG–1 prowadzonego przez Urząd Statystyczny w Poznaniu, stanowiącego podstawę do opracowywania większości wskaźników krótkookresowych dotyczących działalności przedsiębiorstw w Polsce. Badanie DG–1 to miesięczny meldunek o działalności gospodarczej, który zawiera najważniejsze informacje dotyczące podmiotów gospodarczych, ich działalności oraz produkcji wyrobów i zapasów. Obejmuje ono swym zasięgiem przedsiębiorstwa, w których liczba pracujących przekracza 9 osób.

Information about monthly characteristics of the small business sector is currently provided mainly by sample surveys conducted, among others, by the Central Statistical Office. Sample size enables parameters of interest to be estimated with acceptable precision only at the country or voivodeship level or by NACE section. The growing demand for reliable estimates at a low level of aggregation is the motivating force behind research into the application of indirect methods of estimation based on auxiliary sources of information. Hence, the article seeks to evaluate the possibility of applying the Fay-Herriot model to estimate one of the basic economic variables that characterise small business, i.e. revenue, based on information collected in administrative registers maintained by the Ministry of Finance.

Informacje dotyczące miesięcznych charakterystyk sektora małych przedsiębiorstw obecnie pochodzą głównie z badań reprezentacyjnych prowadzonych m.in. przez GUS. Wielkość próby umożliwia precyzyjne oszacowanie parametrów jedynie dla całego kraju i województw bądź w przekroju sekcji PKD. Rosnąca potrzeba dostarczenia wiarygodnych szacunków na niskim poziomie agregacji skłania do prowadzenia badań dotyczących zastosowania pośrednich metod estymacji wykorzystujących dodatkowe źródła informacji. Stąd też celem artykułu jest ocena możliwości zastosowania modelu Fay-Herriota do oszacowania jednej z podstawowych charakterystyk ekonomicznych dotyczących małych przedsiębiorstw, jaką jest przychód, na podstawie informacji zawartych w rejestrach administracyjnych prowadzonych przez Ministerstwo Finansów.
