The main goal of the article is to present the achievements of the Social Work Unit at the Institute of Sociology of the University of Silesia, accumulated during the 25 years of its functioning. Aside from the rich experience in terms of educating towards the position of a social employee, the unit is characterized by scientific research activity and is engaged in numerous cooperative endeavours locally, nationally and internationally. The entirety of the activity contributes to the pursuit of processes that strengthen the professionalism and prestige of the job of a social employee. The activity results from the belief in the significance of combining theory and practice, which is evidenced in the various forms of the realized tasks. The text was created for the 25th anniversary of the existence of the Social Work Unit and is a summary of the most important achievements.

The education towards the job of a social employee requires the learning of specific knowledge that ensures the interdisciplinary and versatile preparation of a future professional. In this aspect, social projects are of particular importance as due to their multitasking requirements they stimulate student activity, allow for the combination of knowledge with action and activate reflexive behaviour, which allows for the evaluation of the designed activities. The preparation and implementation of projects are related to the necessity to assume a number of roles, creating the opportunity to test oneself in new activities and to determine the degree of self-readiness to do/perform the job. The aim of the article is to highlight the educational values of designing and presenting the structure of social projects realized at the Social Work Unit at the Institute of Sociology of the University of Silesia. The text also points out the difficulties that occur during the specific stages of project work and provides tips in order to avoid such difficulties.

There is a lot of discussions around process of professional education for socio-educational activity, which answers for new challenges of training competencies of social work professionals. Academic discourses are related not only with concept of profesionalization, but also are focused on such kind of education, which is adequate to accepted standards and individual as well as social expectations. Undertaken discourse on educational dilemmas of academic education of social workers is a kind of reflection on possible aspects of exploration of the problem and dilemmas connected with creating expected knowledge, skills and attitudes, which are friendly for effective social work professional practice.

Istnieje wiele kontrowersji wokół procesu edukacji zawodowej do obszaru działania socjalno-wychowawczego i odpowiadającego nowym wyzwaniom kształcenia kompetencji profesjonalnych pracowników socjalnych. Akademickie dyskusje dotyczą nie tylko istoty profesjonalizacji, ale i takiego przygotowania zawodowego pracowników socjalnych, które odpowiadałoby przyjętym standardom oraz indywidualnym i społecznym oczekiwaniom. Podjęty dyskurs nad edukacyjnymi dylematami akademickiej edukacji pracowników socjalnych jest próbą refleksji nad możliwymi obszarami eksploracji tego problemu oraz dylematami związanymi z kształtowaniem oczekiwanej wiedzy, umiejętności i postaw, które sprzyjałyby efektywnym działaniom profesjonalnym pracownika socjalnego.

The existence of an institutional and organizational space in which researchers, teachers of social work schools and social workers carry out research and education is an important condition for shaping the identity of social work. Such a specific space has been created for over thirty years by the Polish Association of Social Work Schools . The discussion on the role of the Association in the promotion of research and academic standards of education for social work – is a personal reflection of the author on the contribution of the organization in creating a symbolic and real space for the development of social work as a professional activity and discipline, as well as the exchange of ideas and theoretical and practical experience of social work in Poland. Not without significance is the contribution of PSSPS in creating scientific and didactic cooperation on an international basis. In the article, the author tries to recreate certain events from the past of PSSPS, as well as the spaces of experience of the community of Members, by participating in annual conventions, which, according to R. Koselleck, become a modernized past, creating the present and determining the future of the Association.

Istnienie przestrzeni instytucjonalnej i organizacyjnej, w której badacze, nauczyciele szkół pracy socjalnej oraz pracownicy socjalni realizują badania i kształcenie, jest ważnym warunkiem kształtowania tożsamości pracy socjalnej. Taką swoistą przestrzeń tworzy od ponad trzydziestu lat Polskie Stowarzyszenie Szkół Pracy Socjalnej. Podjęta dyskusja nad rolą Stowarzyszenia w promocji badań i akademickich standardów kształcenia do pracy socjalnej – jest osobistą refleksją autorki nad wkładem organizacji w tworzeniu symbolicznej i rzeczywistej przestrzeni rozwoju pracy socjalnej jako działalności profesjonalnej i dyscypliny, a także wymiany idei oraz doświadczeń teoretyczno-praktycznych pracy socjalnej w Polsce. Nie bez znaczenia jest wkład PSSPS w kreowaniu współpracy naukowo-dydaktycznej na gruncie międzynarodowym. W artykule autorka próbuje odtworzyć pewne wydarzenia z przeszłości PSSPS, a także przestrzenie doświadczania wspólnoty członków, przez uczestnictwo w corocznych zjazdach, które w myśl R. Kosellecka stają się uwspółcześnioną przeszłością, kreującą teraźniejszość i wyznaczającą przyszłość Stowarzyszenia.

The aim of the text is to make available the research material obtained from the record of the dialogue contained in the protocol of the Second International Conference of Social Service, which took place in 1932 in Frankfurt am Main. During the conversation, the participants of this meeting refer to the issues discussed during the conference, but recall the main theses raised during the 1st International Conference of Social Service in Paris in 1928. The dialogue conducted in several languages has not yet been translated into Polish, but according to the authors of the text, it is - due to the topicality of the topics discussed by the experts of the European social services school movement at that time - worth introducing to contemporary researchers of social and pedagogical issues.

Celem tekstu jest udostępnienie materiału badawczego pozyskanego z zapisu dialogu, jaki znalazł się w protokole z II Międzynarodowej Konferencji Służby Społecznej, która odbyła się w roku 1932 we Frankfurcie nad Menem. Uczestnicy tego spotkania podczas rozmowy odwołują się do problematyki wspomnianej konferencji, ale wracają pamięcią do głównych tez, jakie poruszano podczas I Międzynarodowej Konferencji Służby Społecznej w Paryżu w roku 1928. Dialog prowadzony w kilku językach nie został do tej pory przetłumaczony na język polski, a zdaniem autorek tekstu jest on – z uwagi na aktualność wątków poruszanych w dyskusji przez ówczesnych ekspertów europejskiego ruchu szkół służby społecznej – wart przybliżenia współczesnym badaczom zagadnień społeczno-pedagogicznych.

Polish Association of Social Work Schools in the first decade: anniversary study ABSTRACT The subject of the article is an analysis of the first ten years of the activity of the Polish Association of Social Work Schools (PSSPS) from the point of view of the process of becoming and sharing experiences in various areas and during critical events interpreted in the context of a historical generation. The documentary reference is the timeline of activities systematically updated on the PSSPS home page and personal experience of the author who has participated in the events.

Odniesieniem dokumentarnym jest systematycznie publikowane na stronie domowej PSSPS kalendarium działalności i odczucia autorki będącej uczestniczką zdarzeń.
