The article analyzes the experience of patriotic education and civic consciousness of youth in the United States. The author shares his experience of training under the programme “Civic consciousness development of youth in the context of educational reforms” of the US Agency for International Development (USAID). It has been found that the main course of civic education syllabus in the USA is the formation of political culture, legal awareness, the culture of interethnic relations, work motivation, awareness of moral values, the understanding of freedom, the culture of interethnic relations, the development of work motivation, fostering in children respect for work and realization of its role in people’s life. Civic education in US schools is performed in four ways: as a school subject; as a form of interdisciplinary activities in education; as a form of extra-curricula activities; as a way of school life which develops democratic behaviour. The article analyzes the role of public organizations in civic education of youth and defines the lines of their activities as well as a problem of low efficiency of civic education in Ukraine caused by the following reasons: conventional perceptions that civic education does not require special attention; the lack of concurrency in civic education curriculum implementation; the lack of consistency in training and professional development of civic education teachers, in sharing positive experience, coordination of activities and monitoring.

The aim of the article is to answer the following research question: Through what activities does the Stocznia Foundation ensure involvement of and support to children and youth? The analysis was performed on the basis of theoretical and empirical knowledge. Areas were indicated in which the support of the young generation by NGOs was most often noted as part of activities for local communities. In this aspect, types of assistance were listed, such as: shaping the attitudes of youth, learning soft skills in relations with other people in the decision-making process, social directions of development of children and youth, and assistance in gaining visibility of the realized projects. Apart from that, the positions of the authors of the Equal Opportunities project are based on 20 years of work. The Foundation focuses its activities on the provision of services in the areas that favor building a conscious and safe society through the active involvement of the young ones in efforts for the common good.

Józef Depowski was born on 29 November 1879 in Ropczyce in a family of farmers, in 1899 he graduated the classical gymnasium in Rzeszów and began studies of philosophy, theology and spiritual formation in the Theological Seminary in Tarnów, which he was obliged to abandon due to health problems. From 1907-1916 he studied in the Faculty of Theology and Philosophy of the Swiss University of Fribourg, where in 1912 he defended his doctoral thesis on the subject of the history of art. In 1912 he became incardinated to the Armenian Catholic Archdiocese of Lviv and in 1913 he took holy orders. After his return to Galicia he undertook the job of a teacher and a catechizer in the gymnasiums in Zamość (1916-1917) and in Ropczyce (1923-1930). He was a teacher and an educator of the youth, he taught several subjects in secondary schools, he served as the headmaster of a gymnasium, the chaplain of a nursery, he was a spiritual leader, the pastoral minister of workers, the initiator of social undertakings, the author of scientific publications. From 1936-1939 he was the administrator the Armenian parish in Tyśmienica. He passed away on 8 November 1939 in Ropczyce, where he was also buried.
