Zur Struktur der biografischen Einträge in deutschen und polnischen Lexika und Enzyklopädien am Beispiel von Heinrich Laube

The aim of the article is to examine the lexical structure of the biographical entries in lexicons and encyclopedias. In the light of previous research questions, there’s no existing treatment of biographical encyclopedic keywords. The analysis is based on encyclopedic entries of a biographical character using the example of Heinrich Laube, the German writer and theater director. For the purposes of the study, the following terms were defined: biography and encyclopedic reference works (lexicons and encyclopedias), entries (lemma articles / dictionary articles). The goal is to examine how the biographical entries in such reference works are structured in terms of content and syntax. The question of whether they have a complex and regular construction and if a sample of the biographical text type can be created on this basis is investigated. The research material consists of printed German and Polish lexicons and encyclopedias, mainly from the 19th and 20th centuries, and also includes current online reference works for comparison. The analysis proves that the biographical entries in encyclopedias form a visible and regular structure. The Polish and German documents are compared with one another and, based on the analysis of 18 German and 24 Polish reference works, it is determined that none of the research sources contain any major deviations and that they are structured similarly in terms of both content and syntax. Finally, it is proven that the articles consist of six following thematic parts: Brief introduction (surname, first name, pseudonyms), dates of birth and death, main title (occupation), chronological presentation of facts from life, performance and works and in the case of Online Sources – Additional Notes on His Death and Grave. The analysis could have a practical implementation in further treatment of biographical text types or text variants and complements the previous examination of dictionary articles.

De doctis Reginae-Hradecensibus commentarius (1775) is one of the early works by Leopold Jan Šeršník (1747–1814), a Teschen exjesuit and a future founder of the first museum within the Czech lands – in Teschen (in today Poland). It is also the first of his two published encyclopedias and it contains bio-bibliographical entries of 26 scholars from the region of Hradec Králové, most of whom lived in the period before the battle on the White Mountain (1620). The entries are quite brief, the most detailed one is that of Bohuslav Balbín, whose Bohemia docta was the main source of Šeršník.

У статті висвітлено постать великого українця, енциклопедиста Євгена Онацького крізь призму найвідомішої його праці «Українська мала енциклопедія», яку він підготував і опублікував у роки перебування в еміграції в Арґентині. Наголошено, що «Українську малу енциклопедію» нарешті перевидано в Україні (поки що опубліковано 2 томи із 4-х запланованих). У 2019 році минає 125 років від дня народження та 40 років від дня смерті Є. Онацького.

The article is dedicated to Yevhen D. Onatskyi who is a prominent figure of Ukraine, primarily known as an encyclopedist because of The Small Ukrainian Encyclopedia that is his most famous work. The Small Ukrainian Encyclopedia was complied and published during his stay in exile in Argentina. The study reports that The Small Ukrainian Encyclopedia has finally been reprinted in Ukraine (4 volumes are planned to be published; currently 2 volumes (2016, 2018) are already issued). In 2019, it will be 125 years since the birth and 40 years since the death of Ye. D. Onatskyi.

До питання створення національної довідкової служби енциклопедично-освітнього спрямування

Стаття висвітлює питання необхідності створення національної довідкової служби, що функціонувала б у вигляді безкоштовної телефонної лінії і, можливо, базувалася б на основі сучасних українських енциклопедичних ресурсів. Поява такої служби обґрунтована у зв’язку з міжнародним соціальним рухом ціложиттєвого навчання (lifelong learning), яким в Україні опікується Всеукраїнське координаційне бюро Міжнародної громадсько-державної програми «Освіта дорослих України». Концепція ціложиттєвого навчання відстоює науково виважену ідею про здатність людини навчатися в будь-якому віці. Її визначено Радою Європи важливим компонентом європейської соціальної моделі. Відповідно, одним із завдань європейських держав є забезпечення прагнень громадян до розвитку, отримання ними освіти впродовж усього життя. Ідея створення національної довідкової служби в Україні ґрунтується на досвіді європейських країн, зокрема Великої Британії, у якій діє служба «Learndirect» («Навчання навпростець»).

The article defends the necessity to establish a national help service titled Navchannia Navprostets (Learn Direct). It would be a not-for-profit telephone line based on modern encyclopedias of Ukraine. The creation of such a service is justified by the Lifelong Learning as an international social movement, which in Ukraine is supervised by the Ukrainian Coordination Bureau of the International Public-State Program Adult Education in Ukraine. The concept of lifelong learning is upheld by the scholarly explained idea of a human ability to learn at any age. It has been identified by the Council of Europe as an important component of the social model of Europe. Accordingly, one of the tasks of the European states is to ensure the citizens’ aspirations for development and to receive lifelong education. The idea of starting up the national help service in Ukraine is based on the experience of European countries, first of all, we mean a service in the UK (Learndirect).
