The turn of the twenty-fi rst century is the time of a global revolution consisting in an avalanche of modern technologies. The achievements of science and technology are used in every fi eld of human existence. The basis of functioning of modern society is the use of cyberspace. Access to mobile phones, computers and the global ICT network is a determinant of societal development. The idea of universal automation and computerisation is a fact. The possibility of using high-speed ICT connections is not only the domain of scientifi c institutions, military agents and large business entities. A global computer network connects individuals. The intensive development of modern technologies, the Internet and telecommunication networks has enabled the emergence of a new approach in communication between citizens and the state (with central and local government offi ces). It has also enabled the introduction of new solutions, models and services at this level, resulting directly from specifi c social needs and expectations. According to the assumptions of the idea of e-government, the basic premise for creating e-government is to improve contact with the authorities at all levels, and to speed up procedures for dealing with offi cial matters. Investing in modern administration may bring tangible benefi ts to citizens and entrepreneurs as well as to the administration itself.

The issue of the third category of entities has been presented in this study. Various ideas and conceptions were formulated in the Polish civil law doctrine — concerning the problem mentioned above. Not every author agreed that there were basics for a theory about the existence of the third category of entities. It was important to quote some of the rulings in the discussed scope. Furthermore, the study contains attempts to look at the problem from the other side and postulates to make some fundamental changes in regulations of the Polish Civil Code in the discussed area — the issue of limited legal entities operating in civil law for a long time (such entities were recognized and regulated in Art. 33¹ of the Polish Civil Code). The aim of this article was to find a way to simplify the matter considered by presenting the idea to drop some crucial terms that are in constant use in such considerations.

In this paper, I shall examine the complements of perception verbs in Old English involving a noun phrase and a present participle. What kind of perception is described by these structures? Do they evoke the perception of an event, or that of an entity? It will be shown here that there are good reasons to believe that an NP + present participle sequence could function as the equivalent of the traditional “AcI” construction when used with perception verbs. I shall also attempt to determine to what extent the syntax of this construction matches the semantics: is the internal argument of the perception verb the NP alone, or some kind of combination of the NP and the participle? This question is particularly interesting in the light of Declerck’s (1982) remarks on participle perception verb complements in modern English. Finally, I shall take a look at morphological parametres: sometimes the participle inflects to agree with the NP, whereas on other occasions it does not. What might the implications of this kind of variation be?
