Purpose: The main purpose of this paper is to present the phenomenon of interorganizational collaboration from the strategic perspective, as a complex phenomenon, infl uenced by environmental factors, such as institutions – both formal and informal. Additional aims of the paper are: to present a model including all signifi cant elements and identifying important research gaps. Methodology: The paper presents the results of literature analyses as well as the fi ndings of the latest research studies in the fi eld of interorganizational collaboration, taking into account the environment of the organization. Conclusions: The external environment of the organization, in particular socio-cultural factors, has a significant impact on the formation, development, evolution and management of interorganizational collaboration. There are still many research gaps in this fi eld, and some of them have been presented in this paper. Research limitations: This paper is a theoretical and conceptual study. It forms an introduction to further empirical research. Originality: The paper presents the phenomenon of interorganizational collaboration in a broader context, taking into account the external environment as an element infl uencing such collaboration. Most of the works in this fi eld focus on organizations managing or coping with the environment. This paper presents a different approach. It indicates the external factors that infl uence interorganizational collaboration from a strategic perspective, and subsequently presents them in the form of a model.

Ze względu na złożoność problemów współczesnego zarządzania organizacjami, w artykule Autorzy próbowali udowodnić, że otoczenie organizacji w znaczący sposób determinuje jego rozwój, funkcjonowanie i bezpieczeństwo finansowe. Badania zostały wykonane przy wykorzystaniu metod scenariuszowych i ekstrapolacji trendów. Dzięki zaproponowanym metodom możliwym było zbadanie składników makrootoczenia organizacji w kontekście ich strategicznego wpływu na jego funkcjonowanie. Z przeprowadzonych badań scenariuszy stanów otoczenia jednoznacznie wynikało, że w większości analiz znaczącą rolę odgrywają sfery: międzynarodowa, ekonomiczno – polityczna oraz konkurencyjna.

Considering the complexity of problems connected with modern management of organizations, , the authors attempted to prove that the environment of the organization does significantly determine its development, functioning and financial security. The study was conducted with the use of scenario analysis , as well as trend extrapolation. The applied methods enabled investigation of macro – environmental factors of the organization in terms of their strategic effect on its functioning. The examined scenario analyses of the environmental status definitely proved that in the majority of analyses the key role is played by the international, economic and political and competitive areas.

DOI: 10.19251/ne/2020.32(7) The aim of this article was to attempt to diagnose the internal condition of the “X” University using the SWOT-TOWS analysis, indicating the strengths and weaknesses of the business, as well as determining the opportunities and threats that may appear in its external environment. As a result of the analysis the authors came to the conclusion that the examined organizations houldadoptanaction strategy based on its strengths and opportunities. This combination was granted the highest score in terms of the sum of interactions and the sum of products. The obtained aggregate results also let draw the conclusion that the most desirable development option for the X University is the adoption of an aggressive strategy.

DOI: 10.19251/ne/2020.32(7) Celem artykułu było podjęcie próby dotyczącej diagnozy kondycji wewnętrznej Uczelni Wyższej „X” przy wykorzystaniu analizy SWOT – TOWS, wskazując na silne i słabe strony prowadzonej działalności, a także określając szanse i zagrożenia, mogące pojawić się w jej otoczeniu zewnętrznym. W wyniku analizy, Autorzy doszli do wniosku, że badana organizacja powinna przyjąć strategię działania opierającą się na jej mocnych stronach i szansach. Kombinacja ta otrzymała najwyższy wynik pod względem sumy interakcji i sumy iloczynów. Uzyskane wyniki zbiorcze upoważniają również do wniosku, że najbardziej pożądanym wariantem rozwoju dla Uczelni Wyższej X jest przyjęcie strategii agresywnej.
