Historical regions remain the most common basis for the formation or promotion of regional identities in Europe. However, regions and regional identities are in the process of constant formation and can change significantly in line with new conditions. In this paper we focused on the changes of the spatial spread of identities with historical regions in Ukraine in comparison to the initial boundaries of those. The results show that identities with historical regions are markedly adapting to modern administrative boundaries. At the same time, the symbolic value of historical regions constitutes an essential element of identity building in contemporary administrative regions.

Text se zaměřuje na chrématonyma a jejich funkcí ve vybraných literárních textech dvou českých autorů, Bohumila Hrabala a Oty Pavla. Zatímco v Hrabalových povídkách chrématonyma vytvářejí kontrast šedivé současnosti komunistického režimu padesátých let к pestrosti předválečného života, v prózach Oty Pavla slouží jako evokace vzpomínek na šťastné dětství a mládí prožité v Praze a u řeky Berounky.

As varied as the clientele breeds: on names of pet boarding businesses

This study explores the language of pet service industry by examining the English names of pet boarding businesses. In particular, the naming patterns of 173 pet care facilities (for dogs and/or cats) in a large US metropolitan county were examined. The linguistic strategies and processes uncovered are as varied as the clientele breeds, including phonetic substitution, metonymic projection, onomatopoeia, and foreign borrowing. Moreover, the emotive association evoked is often conveyed through the conceptual or connotative content of particular lexical choices. The findings on the collective samples reflect contemporary attitude towards our fur children and point to an increasing trend towards pet humanization and pet care premiumisation. Though the dataset relates to a segment of the population, the onomastic phenomena observed may still be broadly applicable.

Tato studie se zabývá jazykem služeb a péče o domácí mazlíčky a zkoumá názvy ubytovacích zařízení pro zvířata. Analyzováno bylo 173 názvů těchto zařízení (pro psy a/nebo kočky) v okrese Los Angeles County, který je nejlidnatějším ve Spojených státech. Jazykové strategie a procesy, které analýza odhalila, jsou stejně rozmanité jako klientela těchto zařízení a zahrnují fonetickou substituci, metonymii, onomatopoické výrazy a výpůjčky z cizích jazyků. Emotivní asociace je vyvolávána skrze konceptuální a konotativní obsah konkrétních lexikálních jednotek vybraných pro daný název. Výsledky poukazují na současný přístup k mazlíčkům jako k huňatým dětem a potvrzují vzrůstající trend polidšťování domácích zvířat a tzv. premiumizaci péče o domácí mazlíčky. Ačkoliv data zahrnují pouze zlomek populace, pozorované onomastické jevy lze aplikovat obecněji.
