Nanotechnology: legal and ethical issues

Nanotechnology is a very vast field which includes a range of technologies at the nano scale, such as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, genomics, neuroscience, robotics and information technologies. Nanotechnology is the latest technological innovation in global debates on risk regulation and international cooperation. Regulatory bodies have started dealing with the potential risks posed by nanoparticles. Since 2004 the UE has been developing a regulatory policy to tighten control and to improve regulatory adequacy and knowledge of nanotechnology risks. Currently, specific provisions on nanomaterials have been introduced for biocides, cosmetics, food additives, food labelling and materials in contact with foodstuff. The statement that nanotechnologies do inevitably imply ethical questions. The main problems are public trust, potential risks, issues of environmental impact, transparency of information, responsible nanosciences and nanotechnologies research. The aim of this article is to analysis the main problems regulating nanotechnology and some aspects of ethics.

This article aims at discussing ethical issues which should underlie a good relationship between a physician and a patient. Reflections are based on the theses described in the The Charter for Health Care Workers developed on the initiative of the Pontifical Council for the Pastoral Care of Health Care Workers and approved by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. The paper attempts to present the physician's attitudes towards the pressing problems of prenatal period of human life as well as adulthood and the elderly. Ethical issues, such as the inviolable right to life and utmost respect for human life, seem to be valid and justifiable in times of commercialization and fast development of medical services, and thus need further thorough analysis.

Artykuł ma na celu omówienie zagadnień etycznych, które powinny stać się podstawą dobrych relacji między lekarzem a pacjentem . Rozważania oparte są na pracach opisanych w Europejskiej Karcie Pracowników Służby Zdrowia opracowanej z inicjatywy Papieskiej Rady Duszpasterstwa Pracowników Służby Zdrowia i zatwierdzonej przez Kongregację Nauki Wiary. W artykule podjęto próbę przedstawienia postawy lekarza wobec palących problemów prenatalnym okresie życia ludzkiego, a także problemy dorosłych i osób starszych . Kwestie etyczne, takie jak nienaruszalne prawo do życia i szacunek dla ludzkiego życia, wydają się być ważne i uzasadnione w czasach komercjalizacji i szybkiego rozwoju usług medycznych, które tym samym potrzebują dalszej dogłębnej analizy.

Oral history is a method present within various scientific disciplines. The analysis of literature and projects shows that it is mostly dealt with by amateurs. The issues analyzed in this article have been raised since the introduction of the Ethical Recommendations of the Polish Association of Oral History in 2018. The Author analyzed the approach to that method as a historical source, changing throughout the centuries. This issue, as well as the analysis of the projects implemented by Polish institutions, made it possible to specify the main ethical dilemmas mentioned by the researchers that use the oral history as their research method. In this article a point of view of a historian and a museum expert was presented, due to the author’s experience.

Historia mówiona jest metodą funkcjonującą w obrębie różnych dyscyplin naukowych. Z analizy literatury i projektów wynika, iż zajmują się nią przede wszystkim amatorzy. Problemy analizowane w artykule zostały wywołane pojawieniem się Rekomendacji etycznych Polskiego Towarzystwa Historii Mówionej w 2018 roku. Autorka przeanalizowała podejście do tejże metody jako źródła historycznego, zmieniające się na przestrzeni wieków. Kwestia ta i analiza projektów zrealizowanych przez instytucje polskie pozwoliła na wyodrębnienie głównych dylematów etycznych wymienianych wśród badaczy wykorzystujących historię mówioną jako metodę badawczą. W artykule została przedstawiona perspektywa historyka i muzealnika ze względu na doświadczenie autorki tekstu.
