Wojna w Ukrainie jest od lutego 2022 r. głównym tematem wielu dyskusji, przede wszystkim w kręgach politycznych, ale także kwestią, która jest istotna dla całych społeczeństw w Europie i na całym świecie. W refleksji na ten temat uwzględnia się różne aspekty – nie tylko czysto geopolityczne i gospodarcze, ale także etyczne. Niniejszy artykuł dotyczy kwestii, które w obliczu toczonej wojny rodzą się wobec zasad chrześcijańskiej względnie katolickiej etyki wojny i etyki pokoju. Niektóre z tych zasad, podobnie jak wysiłki polityczne, wydają się nieskuteczne i domagają się przemyślenia i sformułowania na nowo. Jedna z podstawowych kwestii dotyczy stosunku do wojny, inne odnoszą się do warunków tradycyjnie rozumianej uzasadnionej obrony koniecznej i przyczyn zbrojnego konfliktu. Wojna w Ukrainie inspiruje także do stawiania pytań o odpowiedzialność i rolę organizacji międzynarodowych, jak również środków zabezpieczenia pokoju. Chrześcijańskiemu względnie katolickiemu ujęciu etyki wojny i pokoju obcy jest radykalny pacyfizm, ale jej podstawy w obliczu trwającej wojny w Ukrainie domagają się w niektórych szczegółowych kwestiach przemyślenia i sformułowania na nowo.

The war in Ukraine is, since February 2022, the main themeof a lot of discussions, especially in political circles and an important question for societies in Europe and throughout the world. The reflection on this theme includes different aspects of not only geopolitical and economical character, but ethical too. The present article talks about questions which during the actual war in Ukraine bring up the principle of the Christian or Catholic ethics of war and of peace. Some of these principals are ineffective like political efforts and demand rethinking and reformulation. One of the main questions concerns the position towards war, others concern the conditions of the traditional understanding of a just defense and the causes of this military conflict. The war in Ukraine rouses questions about responsibility and the rule of international organizations and about the means to safeguard peace. The Christian or Catholic understanding of the ethics of war and peace is far from radical pacifism, but their principles demand in light of the war in Ukraine a rethinking and reformulation over some specific questions.

Der Krieg in der Ukraine ist seit Februar 2022 ein Hauptthema vieler Diskussionen, vor allem in politischen Kreisen, aber auch eine wichtige Frage, die für ganze Gesellschaften in Europa und weltweit relevant ist. Es werden darin viele Dimensionen und Argumente berücksichtigt, nicht nur die rein geopolitischen und wirtschaftlichen, sondern auch die ethischen. Der vorliegende Beitrag beschäftigt sich mit Fragen, die angesichts des Krieges an die Grundsätze der christlichen bzw. katholischen Kriegs- und Friedensethik gestellt werden. Einige dieser Grundsätze scheinen, ähnlich wie politische Bemühungen, wirkungslos zu sein und bedürfen der Reflexion und Neuformulierung. Eine der Fragen betrifft die allgemeine Einstellung zum Krieg, andere beziehen sich auf die Bedingungen für die traditionell verstandene gerechte Lehre von der Notwehr und den Ursachendes Krieges. Der Krieg in der Ukraine regt auch Fragen nach der Verantwortung und Rolle der internationalen Organisationen an sowie auch nach den Mitteln zur Sicherung des Friedens. Der christlichen bzw. katholischen Kriegs- und Friedensethik ist ein radikaler Pazifismus fremd, ihre Grundsätze müssen jedoch in konkreten Einzelfragen angesichts des Krieges in der Ukraine neu durchdacht und formuliert werden.
