The article presents the basic principles of the spirituality of consecrated life as they are laid out in chapter VI of the Constitution on the Church. These principles can be summed up as the following:1. Consecrated life means the imitation of Christ.2. This imitation is of a charismatic nature, thus can only be lived by vocation, with the power of and originating from the Holy Spirit.3. The fruits of the works of the Holy Spirit, and consequently, the enforcement of the imitation of Christ is love; a love that is always love towards God and your neighbour. How diverse talents and vocations can be.4. Thanks to this love, enforced by the Holy Spirit, consecrated life presents itself as a present from Christ to the Church. It is therefore, placed in the centre of Church life and serves the Church not just by obedience and ministry, but even deeper by a living witness that reflects the pilgrimage of a Christian, and the hope for a life to come.

This publication analysis documents of the Catholic Church concerning primary and secondary religious consecration and their interconnection. It describes their trinitarian, paschal, ecclesial, apostolic and eschatological aspects.

Publikacja przedstawia dostępne dokumenty Kościoła Powszechnego oraz refleksję autora na temat omawianych konsekracji: pierwotnej i wtórnej. Rok Życia Konsekrowanego, który przeżywamy w całym Kościele, stał się doskonałą okazją do rozważań na ten temat. Autor w pracy omawia, nie tylko istniejące formy konsekracji, ale przede wszystkim szczególną kontynuację występującą między nimi. Schemat pracy uwzględnia specyficzny podział na aspekty teologiczne, występujące w każdej z omawianych konsekracji, mianowicie: aspekt trynitarny, paschalny, eklezjalny, apostolski, eschatologiczny. rowskiego OSB/EC.

W historii Kościoła Katolickiego ujawniły się różne sposoby realizacji życia konsekrowanego oraz jego szczególnego rodzaju w życiu zakonnym. Do dzisiejszych czasów funkcjonują zakony monastyczne, zakony klauzurowe, kanoników regularnych, zakony szpitalne, zakony żebrzące, kongregacje pełniące dzieła miłosierdzia. Autor w skrócony sposób prezentuje historię ewolucji tych zakonów, począwszy od starożytności, aż do czasów obecnych. W artykule pokazane jest, w jaki sposób na przestrzeni dziejów zmieniały się one i w nowy sposób podejmowały aktualne zadania. Natura życia zakonnego jest ciągle ta sama, ale w zależności od okoliczności przybiera ciągle nowe formy, aby w aktualnych czasach realizować ideał naśladowania Chrystusa poprzez życie radami ewangelicznymi.

In the history of the Catholic Church, various ways of implementing the consecrated life and its specific type in religious life have been revealed. To this day, there are monastic orders, cloistered orders, canons regular, hospitaller orders, mendicant orders, and congregations performing works of mercy. The author briefly presents the history of the evolution of these orders, from antiquity to the present day. The article shows how they have changed throughout history and how they undertake contemporary tasks in a new way. The nature of religious life is still the same, but, depending on the circumstances, it constantly takes new forms to implement the ideal of imitating Christ by pursuing the evangelical counsels in the present times.

Autor w swoim opracowaniu, biorąc pod uwagę problemy, jakich doświadcza obecnie człowiek, poszukuje odpowiedzi na pytanie: jak ma wyglądać współczesne życie konsekrowane, jakim wyzwaniom musi ono dzisiaj sprostać? Czego oczekuje się dzisiaj od osób konsekrowanych, jakiego świadectwa? W związku z tym, najpierw wskazuje podstawy teologiczne wspólnoty zakonnej, podkreślając, że jest ona darem Bożym, a zarazem tajemnicą zakorzenioną w sercu Trójcy Świętej, następnie omawia jej wymiar charyzmatyczny. Zdaniem autora zasadniczym elementem życia konsekrowanego jest wierność wobec własnej konsekracji według charyzmatu. Wśród współczesnych wyzwań na pierwszym miejscu podkreśla on wyzwania wynikające z rad ewangelicznych, a następnie poddaje analizie inne znaki czasu, które są wyzwaniem dla osób konsekrowanych. Po przeprowadzonych analizach autor podkreśla, że najistotniejszym elementem odpowiedzi na postawione pytanie badawcze pozostaje osobiste i wspólnotowe świadectwo życia osób konsekrowanych. Ich życie objawia światu prawdziwe oblicze miłości Boga i Kościoła, ale nigdy go nie wyczerpuje. Dokumenty Stolicy Apostolskiej umieszczają życie konsekrowane w centrum działalności Kościoła, tym samym wyznaczają mu doniosłe zadanie, by było widocznym znakiem obecności Boga w świecie. Ci, którzy żyją życiem konsekrowanym, stają się promotorami prawdziwego rozwoju osoby ludzkiej. W tym znaczeniu osoby konsekrowane mają szczególny udział i zadanie w uświęcaniu świata. Stanowią one zatem radykalną odpowiedź na pojawiające się w każdej epoce znaki czasu.

In his paper, examining the problems experienced by man today, the author seeks answers to the question: what is contemporary consecrated life to look like? What challenges does it face today? What is expected from consecrated persons today, which testimony? In this regard, first, he points to the theological foundations of the religious community, emphasizing that it is a gift from God and at the same time a mystery rooted in the heart of the Holy Trinity, and then he discusses its charismatic dimension. The author thinks that fidelity to one’s consecration according to the charism is an essential element of consecrated life. Among today’s challenges, he first highlights the challenges of the evangelical counsels, and then analyses other contemporary signs of the time, which are a challenge for consecrated persons. Following these analyses, the author emphasizes that personal and community testimony of the life of consecrated persons remains the most important element of the answer to the posed question. Their lives reveal the true face of the love of God and the Church to the world, but never exhaust it. The documents of the Apostolic See place consecrated life in the center of the Church’s activity, thereby assigning it the momentous task of being a visible sign of God’s presence in the world. Those who live a consecrated life become promoters of the true development of the human person. In this sense, consecrated persons have a special share and task in sanctifying the world. They are, therefore, a radical response to the emerging signs of time in each epoch.

In the article the teaching of Mother Teresa Kalkstein on the calling to religious life is presented. The fourth General Superior of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ devoted a lot of attention to the religious vocation, including the theoretical questions and practical suggestions of carrying one’s vocation in everyday life. Despite the passage of time, some of her thoughts have remained relevant. That is why her writings can still be a useful and interesting reading for the consecrated persons.

W artykule przedstawiono nauczanie m. Teresy Kalkstein na temat powołania do życia zakonnego. Czwarta przełożona generalna Zgromadzenia Sióstr Zmartwychwstania Pańskiego wiele miejsca w swoich listach okólnych poświęca problematyce powołania zakonnego, począwszy od kwestii teoretycznych aż po praktyczne wskazówki dotyczące realizowania powołania w codzienności. Pomimo upływu czasu niektóre jej myśli nie tracą na aktualności, dlatego jej pisma wciąż mogą być pożyteczną i ciekawą lekturą dla osób konsekrowanych.
