The author discusses in this article a problem, important for the practice of pastoral care, of the manifestations of possession. He first cites the symptoms listed in the „Ritual of exorcism”, as well as in the opinions of well-known theologians. The symptoms are then discussed by division into three groups: physical, mental and spiritual. The first includes: unusual strength of a destructive nature, hearing strange voices, visual and auditory hallucinations, somatic disorders, self-injurious behavior, the phenomenon of telekinesis. Psychiatric symptoms include unusual knowledge; non-learned language skills; the symptoms of blockage of the mind, emotions and will; disintegration of the psyche. For the spiritual side we include an aversion to people and holy things, blasphemy, disruption of conscience, despair and suicidal thoughts, and Satan-worship.

This article contains thoughts of Sulpicius Severus (ca 360–420) with regard to the influence of evil spirits on man. Based on the knowledge of St. Martin of Tours, who had much to do with demons. Sulpicius presented a number of human cases of demonic possession by an evil spirit. Most cases he described were about man’s release from possession.Sulpicius Severus was demonstrating that when Satan masters a man he takes away his freedom, a fundamental value, which comes from God. In the face of the numerous cases of enslavement of people by Satan, God’s intervention was needed. Sulpicius was convinced that God has equipped some people to be exorcists, with the gift of releasing the possessed from the power of the devil.

Novum stanowi koncepcja centrum modlitwy o uwolnienie, które na poziomie diecezjalnym pomagałoby osobom doświadczającym wpływów demonicznych. Korzystanie z sakramentaliów w kontekście indywidualnym, jak i działania prowadzone przez centrum to konkretna pomoc w walce ze złymi duchami.

Renaissance, with regard to the use of sacramental signs is a return to the tradition of the Church and reaching the spiritual practices known and used for generations in their lives of faith. Novelty is the idea of prayer for deliverance, which at the diocesan level would help people experiencing demonic influences. The individual use of sacramentals and the activities carried out by the center are the concrete help in the fight against evil spirits.

Wiara w modlitwie o uwolnienie jest przede wszystkim odpowiedzią na dar wypędzania demonów, podarowany wszystkim wierzącym przez Jezusa Chrystusa przed Jego Wniebowstąpieniem. Teologalny kontekst wiary jest naturalnym środowiskiem dla sprawowania modlitwy o uwolnienie. Owocność posługi uwalniania jest subiektywnym kryterium oceny „jakości wiary” posługujących, jak również, ale w mniejszym stopniu, osoby proszącej o uwolnienie. Brak wiary u osoby zwracającej się z prośbą o modlitwę nie może stanowić podstawy do od-mowy przeprowadzenia tejże i udzielenia pomocy.

The faith in prayer for deliverance is primarily a response to the gift to cast out demons given to all believers by Jesus Christ before His Ascension into heaven. The context of theological faith is natural environment for prayer for deliverance. Fruitfulness of the deliverance ministry is a subjective criterion for determining the „quality of their faith” speakers, as well as, but to a much lesser extent, people would ask for deliverance. The lack of the faith at the asking person cannot be an attitude of the refusal to conduct the prayer and providing assistance.

Il discepolo di Cristo è invitato di esercitare il discernimento spirituale e il discernimento degli spiriti. Quando si tratta di discernimento spirituale, bisogna intendere „spirituale” come livello al quale si esercita il discernimento. San Paolo insegna che i cristiani hanno ricevuto lo Spirito di Dio, per poter distinguere ciò che viene da Dio (cf. 1 Cor 2, 12). Quando si parla di discernimento degli spiriti, si tratta del ogetto a cui si applica il discernimento (situazioni di spirito, luci, mozioni e pure gli spiriti – esseri di natura personale – che agiscono nell’uomo). Solo l’uomo „spirituale” è capace di esercitare il discernimento spirituale. Nella Bibbia si trovano i dati, che aiutano a distinguere l’agire dello spirito maligno, dello „spirito della natura umana”, e pure dello Spirito Santo. La chiave fondamentale del discernimento sono le parole di Cristo riportate dal Vangelo. Sulla base biblica e tradizione ecclesiale, la Chiesa può riscoprire le nuove regole del discernimento, se lo necessita la situazione.

According to the researchers, Origen († 254) was the author of the Homilies on the Book of Psalms, whereas Jerome († 420) was their translator into Latin. Based on the above work, we have determined who are the devil and demons. These spirits of wickedness, after rebellion directed against God, were expelled from heaven and they stay in a terrible place, in hell. The Devil and his army are doing everything to separate man from God and make him his friend. This happens when man rejects God’s commandments and commits sin. The author, aware of human weaknesses, stresses the possibility of returning to God through repentance and penance. The forgiveness of sins became possible by the saving passion, death and resurrection of Christ. We wish to stress a strong christocentrism in the teaching of Origen – Jerome. Analysis of the text of the Homilies indicates authorship of Origen with the exception of places with information about Arius and monks, which indicates authorship of Jerome or these are only his notes made during translation of the Origen’s Homilies from Greek into Latin.
