Wzrost konkurencyjności polskich przedsiębiorstw na rynku międzynarodowym spowodował, że wzrosła wartość przepływów pieniężnych w walutach obcych. Wraz ze wzrostem międzynarodowych obrotów handlowych pojawił się nowy czynnik ryzyka, jakim jest ryzyko walutowe. Sytuacja ta wymaga podjęcia szeregu działań mających na celu minimalizowanie ryzyka w procesie zarządzania przedsiębiorstwem. Nowe wyzwania mogą przysporzyć sporo problemów, dlatego większość przedsiębiorstw akceptuje ryzyko i nie podejmuje żadnych działań zmierzających do wyeliminowania wpływu kursu walut na wynik finansowy. Celem artykułu jest zdefiniowanie ryzyka walutowego w przedsiębiorstwie oraz wskazanie istotności zmian kursów walut na osiąganie przez przedsiębiorstwo zakładanych wyników finansowych.

The increase in foreign trade turnover is a great chance for the Polish companies to develop, however new risk factors appear related to the functioning and commercial activity on foreign markets. One of these factors is the risk of fluctuating exchange rates that may have a significant impact on the company’s profitability. Risk awareness should mobilize risk management for the development of appropriate strategies, which can pose many problems. The article explains the concept of currency risk in both negative and positive terms. The methods of mitigation are influenced by changes in currency exchange rates on the company’s financial result and the organization of the risk management procedure in the company is presented. Based on empirical research, sources of risk and the moments of its emergence are clearly presented. Practically, risk hedging has been demonstrated using a Forward contract and how the settlement of a hedging transaction affects the financial result.
