The goal of the article is to explain the existence of the Czech minority in the village of Veliko Središte, located in the Banat region (present-day Serbia), which is one of the districts of the Autonomous province of Vojvodina. It aims to present a corpus of neglected source materials which tell the story of the Czechs from Veliko Središte, along with the corresponding characteristics and historical criticism. Sources of information on the local community of reformed Protestants from southern Moravia will help researchers in the field of Czech emigration understand unknown aspects of the community’s existence in the multiethnic region of southern Banat.

In his book Linguistic Justice for Europe and the World, Van Parijs analyses in one of his chapters the brain drain from non-Anglophone to Anglophone countries, which hurts the economic development of the non-Anglophone states. Van Parijs deems it clear that English is a very important factor to explain high-skilled migration. He, therefore, urges the non-Anglophone countries to relax their linguistic territorial constraints and allow English as a communication language in many different sectors, most notably higher education and scientific research. This would remove the incentive for potential expatriate brains to migrate for linguistic reasons. This article takes a closer look at Van Parijs’ reasoning and proposed solutions. It is concluded that the assumed connection between English and high-skilled migration cannot be proven empirically for research on this topic is scarcely available. Furthermore, the solutions presented by Van Parijs will produce uncertain results at best. Van Parijs rightfully puts the brain drain problem on the political and research agenda, but much more additional studies are needed to formulate solid solutions.

The paper examines the authors’ concept of the MOMENTUM Model as a Human Capital development tool. The focus is on the psychological costs of work and on creating a proactive approach towards career development strategy as well as on providing effective operational equipment for human capital development and psychological costs reduction in organisations. The MOMENTUM Model describes four types of experts’ work-related approach depending on their level of openness to change and task-innovativeness. The analysis ends with further research recommendations drawing on social psychology concepts enriched by management theories and applications.

The paper discusses the issue of the national identity of foreign-born academic employees working in Poland. Based on 100 in-depth interviews, it answers the question ‘to what extent foreign-born researchers feel Polish and declare to be a part of the Polish academic community,’ and analyses why do they feel like insiders. While the interviewees relatively rarely felt Polish, they quite often declared belonging to the Polish academic community. The way they presented their place within these two communities raises the question of the appropriateness of the general category of 'insiders', because foreign-born academics turned out to be a very diverse community. Some of them treated Poland instrumentally – as a stage of their academic careers, but some became Polish patriots. Paradoxically, the latter opted for local science without supporting internationalization.
