Exploitation films are one of the main trends of the Serbian cinema of the beginning of the 21st century, when Serbia enters the second phase of systemic transformation, striving to neutralize the effects of the crisis in the first phase of transformation – towards the end of the 20th century – due to the authoritarian policy of Slobodan Milošević and Yugoslav wars. This non-film context allows better understanding of the phenomenon of these films, which in many respects are a continuation of the cinema of self-balkanization cultivated in the 1990s, and at the same time differ from it, because they do not offer a compromise with difficult transformational reality, but express the need to release the social trauma born of experience of political violence in the Milošević era.

Książki Jacka Rokosza Stracone dusze (2017) oraz Nadzy i rozszarpani (2021) szczegółowo opisują historię amerykańskiego kina eksploatacji lat, odpowiednio, 1929-1959 i 1960-1980. Autor ukazuje kontekst społeczny, polityczny i kulturalny omawianego kina, a także drobiazgowo opisuje produkcyjne i dystrybucyjne uwarunkowania powstających wówczas filmów. Utrzymana w duchu Nowej Historii Kina, licząca ponad siedemset stron dwutomowa publikacja jest monografią pionierską na polskim rynku wydawnictw filmoznawczych, ponieważ porusza tematy niechętnie podejmowane przez rodzimych filmoznawców.

Jacek Rokosz’s books Stracone dusze [Lost Souls] (2017) and Nadzy i rozszarpani [Naked and Torn Apart] (2021) describe in detail the history of American exploitation cinema in 1929-1959 and 1960-1980, respectively. The author shows the social, political and cultural context of the cinema in question, and describes in detail the production and distribution strategies of producers working in that industry. The two-volume, over seven-hundred-page-long publication in the spirit of New Cinema History is a pioneering monograph with regard to film studies publishing in Poland, as it deals with topics reluctantly taken up by Polish scholars.
