W Polsce w obrębie sieci Natura 2000 znajduje się wiele istotnych z punktu widzenia rozwoju gospodarczego złóż kopalin dostarczających strategicznych surowców. W artykule scharakteryzowano cele programu Natura 2000 na tle założeń zrównoważonego rozwoju kraju. Wskazano przyczyny konfliktów między przyrodnikami a górnikami na obszarach chronionych, gdzie występują złoża kopalin. Konflikty dotyczą pogodzenia wymogów ochrony gatunków chronionych i siedlisk z poszczególnymi formami użytkowania obszarów. Zaprzestanie wydobycia lub jego znaczące ograniczenie mogą powodować wzrost cen oraz zwiększenie niekoncesjonowanego wydobycia. Chcąc ochronić środowisko, możemy mu nieświadomie zaszkodzić, gdyż nielegalne wydobycie kruszywa z koryt rzecznych lub płytko zalegających złóż może zagrażać faunie, florze a także złożom, które są częścią składową środowiska. Racjonalny sposób wydobycia oraz kreatywnie prowadzona rekultywacja wnoszą do środowiska nową jakość.

From the economic point of view, there are numerous important mineral deposits in Poland within the Natura 2000 network, which provide strategic natural resources. The article discusses aims of the Natura 2000 program in the context of country’s sustained development. Reasons of conflicts between naturalists and miners have been indicated with respect to the protected areas, where mineral deposits can be found. These conflicts are related to the compliance of protected species and habitat requirements with different forms of area usage. The disruption of output or significant reduction may lead to increase in prices or illegal output. In pursuit of environment protection, we may damage it unconsciously because illegal ore extraction from river channels or positioned near the surface may endanger the fauna and flora as well as minerals which are part of the environment. The rational extraction and creative rehabilitation bring new quality to the environment.
