The article is devoted to the way museum exhibitions are perceived by visitors, an issue which is one of the most important factors influencing how exhibitions are created. Research from diverse scientific fields allows for a multilateral outline of the question of perception. The article presents selected aspects of psychology, sociology, architecture, urbanism and human geography regarding human/space relationship in the context of museum exhibitions. The author assumes that the perception of an exhibitions is not limited to one or a few senses, but should be regarded through the lens of the psychological and social needs of the museum visitor, and of prescribed schemes of perception and ordering the surroundings. The article provides an analysis of selected contemporary museum exhibitions which aim to integrally influence visitors by means of content-based links with the exhibition’s spatial features.

Artykuł poświęcony jest problemowi percepcji wystaw muzealnych przez zwiedzających. Jest to jedno z najważniejszych zagadnień wpływających współcześnie na kształtowanie ekspozycji. Dorobek badawczy różnych dyscyplin nauki pozwala na wielostronne zarysowanie problemu percepcji. W artykule zostały przedstawione wybrane aspekty psychologii, socjologii, architektury, urbanistyki i geografii humanistycznej dotyczące zależności: człowiek – przestrzeń w kontekście wystaw muzealnych. Autor wychodzi z założenia, że percepcja wystawy nie ogranicza się do jednego czy kilku zmysłów, ale należy ją także postrzegać w kontekście potrzeb psychicznych i społecznych muzealnego gościa, określonych schematów postrzegania i porządkowania otoczenia. W artykule przeanalizowano przykłady współczesnych ekspozycji muzealnych, których zadaniem jest integralne oddziaływanie na zwiedzającego za pomocą powiązania treści z właściwościami przestrzennymi wystawy.
