The newel posts of the first ramp had lion representations, those of the second one were decorated with composite falcon statues. It is the purpose of this article to study the surviving architectural elements of the ramp newel posts in detail and to explore the function of these elements in Hatshepsut’s temple cosmology. Rw.ty, the four seated lions of the first ramp, are guarding the passage from land to the intermediate level of the temple, “begetting” Horus the king, allowing him to rise in life like the sun in its daily resurrection trip, and this forever and ever. In turn, the falcon god of the second ramp hovers in protection, as witness and helper in the passage to the third and highest level of the temple, where the king will achieve full resurrection through the Amun sanctuary and fly up to the sky as a falcon in its name of MAa.t-kA-Ra. The cartouche raised by the anx sign on the first ramp finds an echo in the Sn sign held by the falcon on the second ramp: they both tie and establish the king into his solar renewal destiny, helped by the Dual-lions and Horus of Behedet, lion and falcon from earth to heaven.

From the dawn of time, fire have been always a threat and a challenge to a men who have tried more or less successfully combat with it. The development of an industry, changes in the economy, the technical progress, the development of factories and workshops as well as the introduced fire regulations (in the mid-nineteenth century) - influenced the formation of specialized groups of men who, properly prepared and undertaken the fight against fires. In order to distinguish from civilians participating in extinguishing the fire, firefighters were gradually equipped with protective clothing and equipment. These elements were accompanied by emblems related to the place of operation, functional ranks, badges of the falcon or eagle, and the town’s coat of arms - first placed on helmets, then on caps and uniforms. Many of them were transferred to banners, seals, decorations, letterheads and logotypes of fire magazines. This article focuses on tracing the changes that took place and distinguish volunteer and professional firefighters. The matter of the problem, due to censorship and legal codifications, made it possible to precisely trace the changes - that have taken place in that regard - from the early establishment of fire brigades to the present days, on which this article is mainly focusing on.

Od zarania dziejów towarzyszący człowiekowi ogień stanowił także niebezpieczeństwo pożarów, które w mniej lub bardziej skuteczny sposób były zwalczane. Rozwój przemysłu, zmiany w gospodarce, wdrażanie postępu technicznego, rozwój fabryk i warsztatów oraz wprowadzane przepisy przeciwpożarowe – w połowie XIX w. – miały wpływ na powstawanie wyspecjalizowanych grup mężczyzn, którzy odpowiednio przygotowani, podejmowali walkę z pożarami. W celu odróżnienia od osób cywilnych, uczestniczących w gaszeniu ognia, strażacy stopniowo byli wyposażani w ubrania ochronne i sprzęt ochronny. Tym elementom towarzyszyły emblematy związane z miejscowością działania, stopniami funkcyjnymi, wizerunkami sokoła, orła, herbu miejscowości – najpierw umieszczanych na hełmach, później na czapkach i mundurach. Wiele z nich zostało przeniesionych na proporce, sztandary, pieczęcie, odznaczenia,listowniki i logotypy czasopism pożarniczych. W niniejszym artykule skupiono się na prześledzeniu zmian, jakie zachodziły w zewnętrznych wyróżnikach cechujących strażaków ochotników i zawodowych. Materia problemu, ze względu na cezurę czasową oraz kodyfikację prawną, pozwalała na precyzyjne prześledzenie zmian – jakie zachodziły w tej materii – od początku zorganizowania straży pożarnych do czasów współczesnych, czego próbą jest niniejszy materiał.
