The article presents the research results on the relationship between family involvement and innovation of family firms and their economic performance. The following criteria were used to measure family involvement: participation of family members in the company’s management, participation in ownership, presence of family members among the company’s employees, and the act of carrying out succession. Based on the analysis of the collected data from Polish family businesses, it was found that family involvement positively influences the company’s performance. However, the relationship between family involvement and firm innovativeness, measured by the number of implemented product innovations, was statistically insignificant. The study’s findings confirm the complexity of family businesses and the ambiguous nature of family influence on family business.

Przedsiębiorstwa rodzinne są podmiotami dominującymi w gospodarkach poszczególnych krajów. W artykule przedstawiono specyficzne cechy oraz główne narzędzia sprawnego gospodarowania firmami rodzinnymi. Na podstawie studiów literatury stwierdzono, iż nie występują znaczące różnice w charakterystykach tych podmiotów w Hiszpanii, na Łotwie, w Polsce oraz w Turcji. W opinii właścicieli/ zarządzających tymi podmiotami sprawność ich działań zdeterminowana jest głownie systemem wartości ważnych dla członków rodziny wraz z uwzględnieniem wartości cennych dla wszystkich interesariuszy rodzinnego biznesu.

Family businesses are dominant entities in the economies of individual countries. The article presents specific features and main tools for efficient management of family businesses. Based on literature studies, it was found that there are no significant differences in the characteristics of these entities in Spain, Latvia, Poland and Turkey. In the owners' opinion (who may also be the managers of these entities), the efficiency of their actions is determined mainly by the system of values important for family members, including values which are significant for all stakeholders of the family business.

The beekeeping sector in the EU is small compared to other agricultural sectors, but necessary to pollinate most crops. In the European Union and Ukraine, the majority of beekeepers are small family farms. The family farm is an important institution of Western European agriculture and an important element of rural social life. The purpose of this article is to examine a particular type of agricultural enterprise and the type of activity that is beekeeping and to identify its specific features, which makes it possible to classify it as a family enterprise. The socio-economic analysis of apiculture is carried out from the perspective of two approaches. The first approach means meeting formal criteria for family farming. The second approach takes into account the most common practice in individual beekeeping. The study suggests that the formulation and a series of theoretical and practical rules regarding family farming has been confirmed in the analysis of an individual beekeeping farm as a small form of agricultural production.

Sektor pszczelarski w Unii Europejskiej jest niewielki w porównaniu do innych sektorów rolnych, ale niezbędny do zapylania większości upraw. W UE i na Ukrainie większość pszczelarzy to małe gospodarstwa rodzinne. Gospodarstwo rodzinne jest też ważną instytucją rolnictwa zachodnioeuropejskiego i ważnym elementem wiejskiego życia społecznego. Celem artykułu jest zbadanie jednego z rodzajów przedsiębiorstwa rolnego, jakim jest pszczelarstwo i identyfikacja jego cech szczególnych, które pozwalają klasyfikować taką działalność w ramach przedsiębiorstw rodzinnych. Analizę społeczno-ekonomiczną pszczelarstwa przeprowadzono z perspektywy dwóch podejść. Pierwsze oznacza spełnienie kryteriów formalnych dotyczących rolnictwa rodzinnego. Drugie podejście uwzględnia najczęstszą praktykę w pszczelarstwie indywidualnym. Badanie sugeruje, że sformułowanie szeregu teoretycznych i praktycznych przepisów dotyczących rolnictwa rodzinnego zostało potwierdzone w analizie indywidualnego gospodarstwa pszczelarskiego, jako niewielkiej formy produkcji rolnej.
