Presented in this article are the results of the studies on selected determinants of self – assessment of the economic situation of rural and farmers’ households. A comparative analysis was carried out between self – assessment, incomes and selected characteristics of socio-economic situation of the rural and farmers’ households and households belonging to other socio-economic classes. The econometric analysis shows that there is a strong dependence of households’ assessment own economic situation on earned income. It should be emphasized that the percentage of farmers’ households which accept their own situation is significantly lower than in other types of households with the same income. This probably results from the close connection of consumption and production functions in that class of households and thus their greater financial needs. In the study statistical analysis and econometrical methods were used. Data coming from household budget panels studies of the Polish Central Statistical Office from 2010 were used.

The article aimed to construct a synthetic evaluation of the subjective sense of financial security among the Polish farmers’ households in 2015. The research drew on microdata from Household Budget Survey conducted by the Central Statistical Office in 2015. Due to the ordinal character of simple features the construction employed Generalized Distance Measure (GDM) with TOPSIS (Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) method. Calculations were performed by clusterSim package of the R program.

Celem badań była wielowymiarowa ocena jakości życia w gospodarstwach domowych rolników w Polsce. Badania obejmowały 730 gospodarstw domowych rolników, które scharakteryzowano w dziewięciu obszarach (domenach) jakości życia, które dotyczyły: materialnych warunków życia, aktywności zawodowej, zdrowia, edukacji, czasu wolnego i relacji społecznych, bezpieczeństwa ekonomicznego i fizycznego, aktywności obywatelskiej, jakości środowiska oraz subiektywnej oceny dobrobytu. Podstawę informacyjną badań stanowiły reprezentatywne dane indywidualne pochodzące z badania Diagnoza Społeczna przeprowadzonego w 2015 roku przez Radę Monitoringu Społecznego. Do wyodrębnienia typów gospodarstw domowych według jakości życia wykorzystano metodę wzorcową TOPSIS, a ze względu na występowanie cech mierzonych na skalach niemetrycznych, do wyznaczania odległości obiektów od wartości modelowych zastosowano uogólnioną miarę odległości GDM. Obliczenia wykonano w programie R z wykorzystaniem pakietu clusterSim.

The aim of the paper was a multidimensional assessment of the quality of life in Polish farmers’ households. The study examined 730 households in nine quality of life areas (domains): material living conditions, professional activity, health, education, leisure time and social relations, economic and physical security, civic activity, environment, and subjective well-being. The research drew on representative individual microdata from the Social Diagnosis survey conducted in 2015 by the Social Monitoring Council. To characterize household types according to their quality of life standing, the TOPSIS method was used with a generalized distance measure (GDM) due to the presence of features measured on non-metric scales. The calculations were performed in the R program using the clusterSim package.
